Armed Forces / dishonourable discharge
« on: Friday 30 April 21 12:44 BST (UK)  »
I have a relative who was sent to prison in 1955. At the time he was a soldier. I imagine it was National Service. Would he have been dishonourably discharged from the army? are there any records of this I could access?

The Common Room / Death at sea 1892
« on: Wednesday 19 February 20 14:30 GMT (UK)  »
I know this has been asked before but I'm really stuck. Apologies all. I would like to obtain a death certificate.

George Macleod, born about 1830 died at sea in June 1892. He was the ship's master and after a lot of searching I discovered he died at midnight on 15 June 1892. The ship was, as far as I can determine from the coordinates on the report, in the middle of the South Atlantic Ocean en route for Australia.  The ship was a masted sailing ship called Windermere.

G.R.O. have no record of the death but there may be a record in Western Australia, registration number 747. (Ancestry, Australia death index 1787-1985). Does that sound likely that by dying on the way to Australia he may have been buried at sea and the death registered on arrival?
I found the death record on Find my Past under "British armed forces and overseas deaths and burials". His death was recorded as from liver and kidney complaint.
All help very gratefully received!

Did the Chelsea Pensioners widows get a pension? If so are there any paymasters records?

Armed Forces / Chelsea pensioners
« on: Saturday 17 October 15 12:10 BST (UK)  »
I am trying to track an ancestor who was a Chelsea Pensioner in the early 1800's. His name was Angus McKay. I have subscribed to Find My Past to access the digitalised records.
 I have three questions:
1. Various records refer to Angus specifically as a Chelsea Pensioner. I am trying to narrow the search. Should I exclude the Kilmainham records?
2. Do any records show what address or area the pension was paid to? I know he lived in Auchterless (Dykeside) with his wife.
3. Would his pension continue to be paid to his wife after his death or did the pension die with him?

The words haystack and needle come to mind!  ???

Thankyou in advance for all or any help.
Sheila

Lancashire Lookup Requests / Sarah Edith Jones born 1864
« on: Saturday 29 March 14 15:04 GMT (UK)  »
I am trying to find any trace of Sarah Edith Jones, born 1864 in Liverpool.
Her parents were William and Elizabeth, originally from Wales but lived and worked in Liverpool. William was a builder.

Sarah was the youngest of four girls and, family rumour has it, never married as her mother was badly injured in a railway accident and Sarah had to give up her fiance to stay at home and look after her mother. I have her on the 1911 census living at 1 Lawton Road, Waterloo with her mother and two cousins. her mother died in 1911 and after that I cannot find any trace of Sarah. Her mother is buried with Sarah's father William (cemetery records) but the headstone is not engrave dwith the mothers name. (strange??).

This is the link to may family tree showing Sarah Edith.

I believe my g.g.grandfather was an active freemason in Liverpool/ Birkenhead in the late 1800's and early 1900;s.
Is there any way I can find out more about him through the Freemasons and their archives?
Thanks in advance.

Lancashire Lookup Requests / 31 Green Lane, Patricroft, Eccles
« on: Monday 29 July 13 16:09 BST (UK)  »
My mother's sister, Irene (Rene) Jackson (technically my aunt) died aged 4yrs in November 1925. I believe there is some kind of mystery surrounding this little girl and am trying to unpick it.

I received her death certificate today which cited her place of death as 31 Green Lane, Patricroft, Eccles. This was not the family home. That was 6 Bennett's Buildings, King Street, Stretford.

My mother's parents are listed as Rene's parents so that side of things look OK but why a different address?

The old workhouse, I believe, was 21 Green Lane. Was there a hospital nearby too?

This happened a couple of months after my mum was born so my mum could not help whilst she was alive. I heard that there may have been something wrong with Rene and she did not live at home. Was the Bridgewater Hospital at 31 Green Lane  in 1925? Was this a psychiatric hospital?

Any help would be more than gratefully received.

Many thanks in advance.
