I'm hoping that someone can put me in the right direction.  I am trying to track William ROBERTSON, who was aged 39 in the 1841 Census records for Old Kilpatrick Parish.  His wife, Marion, aged 29 was also living with him at the time.  Also living with the couple were two young lads, described as tailor's apprentice, but no names given.

In an effort to track down my relative, William Paul, born 20 March 1824, I'm looking at his most likely employer.  William Paul was a tailor's apprentice, aged 15 in 1841.  According to the 1841 census, William Paul was living with his family in Old Kilpatrick Village, but I'm wondering if he worked for William Robertson and happened to be home with his family on census night?  (Perhaps this is why the young lads were not named in the census record for William Robertson's family)?

It appears that William Robertson, tailor, was the closest business to where young William Paul was living, so am trying to ascertain more about this William Robertson.  William Paul was not living with his family at the time of the 1851 census, in fact, after 1841 I have found no trace.  With the only clue being "tailor's apprentice", I'm hoping someone may have some more information about William Robertson, tailor, and who his apprentices may be?  Any assistance most appreciated.

I'm wondering if anyone has access to information about a William PAUL, who died in NSW (1911/157).  Father: John, Mother: Ann.  (so far a good fit).  I've already purchased some death records only to discover they were for the wrong William, so I'm trying to eliminate prior to purchase  ;)

My William was born in 1824.

Many thanks in advance.

Australia / Victoria Death - William PAUL
« on: Saturday 07 September 13 05:32 BST (UK)  »
Several years back I was advised (this site) that there is a William PAUL listed as having died "fall of earth" in a mining accident in 00/00/1869.  At the time, it was like looking for a needle in a haystack, but now 'think' that this may be my William.  The death occurred in Maryborough, Alma.  I have located a William PAUL, aged 30, aboard the "Glen Roy" arriving into Victoria 30 June 1854 ex Glasgow and this is a good fit with mine as he was born near Glasgow in 1824.  William's parents were John Paul and Ann Filshie.  Does anyone have any more information on this death so I can confirm whether indeed this is my William.  I would have preferred to have located him with wife and LOTS of family, but makes sense that he died around this time period as his two brothers - George PAUL and Walter PAUL, all headed to the Victorian goldfields, but they later moved on to NZ (no sign of William).  thanks in advance.  I'm in Otago NZ if anyone wants any lookups/photos in return.

New Zealand Completed Requests / Whereabouts of Lawyers Files?
« on: Saturday 05 May 12 10:15 BST (UK)  »
I hoping that someone will be able to give me some advice.  I'm trying to continue my family research from Brisbane whilst awaiting an insurance decision on our house in ChCh - had to explain that as unfortunately some of records got lost in the EQ.  I have discovered (through PapersPast) that my ancester, Walter Paul, butcher in Auckland has been 'communicating' through the Otago papers, to his brother George Paul.  I had been trying to track George Paul down for 10 years and only discovered that he was also in NZ because of the ads placed by Walter.  It appears that George Paul was an early miner on the Nevis and then at some time moved to the Dunstan.  He died in Cromwell in 1881 (from memory), but I do have his Will and death record in storage in NZ.  I found his grave in the Cromwell Cemetery & placed a marker on it, but that's all I know about George (would love more if anyone has anything).  I should say that it looks like Walter placed an ad for George in the Otago Times every time he wanted his brother to contact him.  Over the years, he must have done so as in George's Will, he records that everything in the bank (in Cromwell) should go to his brother Walter, located in Auckland.

I now have one more missing sibling - William Paul - to track down and I'm now wondering if he also made it to NZ.  I've always dismissed the idea, however, the latest advertisement placed by Walter for George I've come across (in the Tuapeka Times, 8 Sep 1870) asks for George Paul to contact his brother Walter in Auckland OR contact William Richmond in Dunedin.  I've researched William Richmond and it appears he is a lawyer.  I've checked our Walter and George's other siblings death dates and none were in 1870.  The only sibling I don't know about is William and I'm now hoping/wishing that I could find the law files of this William Richmond to find out why he is involved.

Sorry to be so long winded, but I'm hoping someone can give me some ideas?

New Zealand Completed Requests / Maurice (Morris) Lewis *COMPLETED*
« on: Thursday 28 October 10 09:57 BST (UK)  »
Hi guys,

I'm trying to help a friend with her research (as I've hit a wall with mine).  Problem is that now that a lot of info has been removed from the BDM, I can't work out how to discover more about the fllwg family.

Maurice Lewis (b: 1900 England) married Hilda Dorothy Darlington (b: 1901 England).

Maurice was a baker in Plimmerton and he died in 1985 in Auckland.  Maurice (Morris?) and Hilda had two children (that I know of) - Robert (b: 1929 in Brooklyn, d: 29 Jan 1985 in Auckland) and Joan (b: unknown).

Hilda Dorothy Darlington was the daughter of Esther Emily (b: 1874 England, d: 2/4/1940 Wgtn) and Alfred William Darlington (b: 1871 Enfield, d: 22/3/1946 Wgtn).

I thought I would have more luck with this couple than I've had as no marriage record, birth records for children, nothing re Maurice (Morris) on PapersPast.

I would be more than happy to do a lookup at NZ Archives ChCh or photo any ChCh grave in exchange for anything anyone is able to supply about Maurice and Hilda's family.

Dunbartonshire / The nearest cemetery to Yoker? COMPLETED THANKS
« on: Saturday 24 April 10 11:59 BST (UK)  »
My ancester, John Paul died some time between 1841 and 1851, when his wife (Ann) was listed as a widow in the 1851 census (Yoker).  Could someone help me with Dunbartonshire geography, ie where would the nearest cemetery be in relation to Yoker? ;)

New Zealand Completed Requests / Hairini Cemetery, near Te Awamutu? *COMPLETED*
« on: Tuesday 13 April 10 04:23 BST (UK)  »
I'm not quite sure of the exact location, but is there someone 'out there' close to Hairini who would be willing to take a grave photo for me?  I know for sure that my ancester - Walter Paul, who died on 25 Oct 1906, aged 14 mos was buried at Hairini.  Quite possibly Walter's twin brothers (stillborn), named Duncan and Allan Paul are also buried there?  Duncan and Allan Paul died on 5 July 1900.

I volunteer to take grave photos in ChCh (a link to my email address can be found on Beverley Evan's site) and I currently have over 4000 photos at Ruru Cemetery on my hard-drive, so I would be happy to photograph anything down here in exchange. :D
