Ireland / BOGGS of Londonderry
« on: Saturday 01 February 14 11:11 GMT (UK)  »
Dear Listers

I wondered if anyone could help with my BOGG/BOGGS ancestors? My 3 x great grandfather was JOHN BOGGS born 1757 in Magherafelt, Londonderry. His parents were John Bogs and Sarah Morgan who married at St. Columb Cathedral, Londonderry in 1746. That's all I know about them.

John and Sarah also had a son James Boggs born 1748 Magherafelt and daughters Mary Boggs born 1753 Magherafelt and Catherine Boggs birthdate unknown but she married Anthony Johnston and they had a son John Johnson born in Magherafelt 1796. These records were found in Magherafelt Anglican church.

Can anyone help me to go any further? I wondered how I might find people in Londonderry named Boggs who might be related? Or is there another way? Do you have any ideas? My 2 x great grandfather Edmund Boggs settled in England and I come from that line so I know very little about Irish genealogy except that records are missing, destroyed or not kept in the first place!
Best wishes France

Derry (Londonderry) / Bogg Family in Magherafelt Church Records
« on: Thursday 30 January 14 19:39 GMT (UK)  »
If you put Magherafelt genealogist into Google I think you could come up with someone who is a genealogist living in Magherafelt who also runs a B and B. He can either look things up for you from either of Magherafelt's churches or put you up so that you can go and do the research yourself! I found him helpful and reasonable in his rates though this was five years ago!

I was also trying to find a living cousin in Ireland who might be connected to my long lost Irish roots or anyone else who could help me further with my ancestors! They all seem to have left Magherafelt so I don't know where they ended up! My 3 x great grandfather John Boggs was born in Magherafelt in 1757 and christened at the Anglican church. His parents were John Bogs and Sarah Morgan. He had a brother James and sisters Mary and Catherine. John Bogs and Sarah Morgan were married at St. Columb Cathedral, Londonderry in 1746. Can anyone help? France

My 3 x great grandfather JOHN BOGGS was born in Magherafelt in 1757. His parents were JOHN BOGS (note spelling difference) and Sarah Morgan who were married in St. Columb Cathedral, Londonderry in 1746. The John Boggs born in 1757 had a brother James Boggs also born in Magherafelt in 1748 and a sister Mary Boggs born in Magherafelt in 1753 and another sister Catherine Boggs who wasn't born in Magherafelt. She married an Anthony Johnston. They had a son John Johnston born in Magherafelt in 1796. Does anyone have a connection or know how I could find out any more about this family?

Sussex / Where did MARY SEARGISON die!
« on: Tuesday 15 March 05 18:43 GMT (UK)  »
Hello everyone!

I'm new to this list! I am trying to find the death cert of my g-grandmother. She was born Mary Watts in Lancashire in 1840. Married my g-grandfather James Newsham in 1875 in West Derby, Lancashire. Had four children and then moved to London with her husband sometime in 1881 (they are on the 1881 census still in Lancashire). Her husband died in Jan 1882 in Kensington. She remarried in November 1882 to a James Seargison. They moved to Hastings, Sussex. They are on the 1891 census and 1901 census in Hastings with her children. My mother and her sister knew her living in Hastings up to 1928/29. They were only children aged 4 and 11. They lived in Kent but visited every summer. Suddenly they didn't go to see her any more so they presume she died. She had an unmarried daughter living at home plus three married children, two living in Sussex so why would she move away at the end of her life. Yet I cannot find her death in Hastings around 1930! Can anyone else find her? She is not on IGI or Free BMD and I have scrolled through 1834online. I have e-mailed Hastings Library but they haven't replied! Any more ideas?

Sussex / Was he a bigamist - James Seargison?

I am trying to find the death of my g-grandmother Mary Seargison in Hastings, Sussex. She is not on Free BMD or FamilySearch. When my mother was three or four she was still alive which would be 1928 or 29. At that time she was living in a house attached to a brick works. Her husband had been a brickmaker. I have recently heard from someone who says they are a descendant of her husband James Seargison and that he had two marriages after Mary's death. However both my aunt and mother say that he died first! Which is true?

Alderney, Guernsey, Jersey, Sark / Lost Glenville's
« on: Tuesday 23 November 04 00:14 GMT (UK)  »
Is there any sign of my Glenville ancesters in Guernsey? My g-grandmother Ann Glenville was born in Mevagissy, Cornwall but her parents  Thomas Glenville and Mary nee Warren are believed to have moved to Guernsey some time later. My g-grandmother's two younger sisters were born in Guernsey. Louisa in 1824 and Elizabeth before 31st Mar 1826 as she was baptised 31st Mar 1826 in Guernsey. She married Henry Wyatt 3rd April 1851 in Guernsey. She died 29/5/1886 at Christchurch New Zealand aged 60. She and Henry Wyatt immigrated between 1851 and 1854 to New Zealand. Wehave never been able to find the marriage cert. for Ann Glenville(sometimes spelt Glanville) and my g-grandfather Edmund Bogg. Did they marry in Guernsey sometime after 1836?
