Derry (Londonderry) / Simpson & McKeown Families
« on: Tuesday 21 August 12 16:48 BST (UK)  »
James Simpson married Mary McKeown 18 Nov 1874. James father was John Ballyvelton, Mary's father Samuel, Ballylagan.
They married in Ballyrashane Church, Coleraine. I am trying to find the maiden name of both John's and Samuel's' wives.

James sister Ellen Mary shows up in the 1901 and 1911 census, James & Mary also turn up with their son Samuel.

I believe there is a book the" Families of Ballyrashane" if someone has a copy would they mind doing a look up.

Has anyone access to local cemetery records, something may turn up. I have located John's will on PRONI, his wife and daughter had already died 1889.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Mr A born 1922 in Ireland, dies in England May 2008, he dies intestate. At this time his nearest relations are 7 cousins, one male, 6 females all in their 80's / 90's. The cousins all live in the US.
September 2008 the male cousin dies, are his family entitled to a share of the estate or is the estate divided between the 6 living female cousins.

Antrim / Samuel Greer McCullough
« on: Sunday 18 April 10 16:58 BST (UK)  »
I need a little help:

Samuel Greer McCullough married Elizabeth Caldwell on the 23rd June 1908 Trinity Church of Ireland Belfast

His father was listed as David McCullough Insurance. Business, Samuel's address was 23, Argyle Street, Full age, Labourer

Elizabeths father was listed as James Caldwell, Labourer. Elizabeth's address was 20, Ormeau Avenue, she was over 21 as well.

Samuel and Elizabeth had 4 boys the first one was called David after his grandfather, their last child was born January 1920 Ellen Steen McCullough. Elizabeth died within a year or two of her birth.

The problem is that I cannot find Samuel or Elizabeth's birth record, I also cannot find them in the 1911 census.

I do not know of any Scottish connection but I am sure that it is a possibility.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Cork / William Walter Raleigh
« on: Tuesday 13 April 10 09:37 BST (UK)  »
Hi Fellow listers,

I have run into a brick wall on this one

William Walter Raleigh was born 20th August 1873 in Cork, father James Raleigh and mother Anne Scannell, James was a shoemaker living in Victoria Street, Cork. James turns up in Dublin 1879 where his daughter Ellen was born. James must have died before 1884 as his wife Anne and her two children emigrated to the US that year, Anne remarried in the US.

I am looking for their marriage cert, I think the name Raleigh may have been mis-spelt, I feel they probably married in Cork, I have searched all Ireland and the UK.

Any ideas?

World War One / John Evans Green
« on: Thursday 01 April 10 16:41 BST (UK)  »
Hello fellow researchers,

John Evans Green married in Enniskillen Northern Ireland 1911, he was a resident in the local military barracks at the time in Queen Street His father was listed as William Soldier on his marriage cert. John was listed as a Seargent in the Royal Army Medical Corps. On his daughter's birth certificate in Enniskillen 1915 he is listed as in action in France, I have found his WW1 war medal it gives the reference number 12261.

I have checked the 1911 census for the barracks, it only gives initials, some very hard to read. Most of the soldiers in the barracks were born in either England or Scotland a few from Wales.

Any ideas where to start?

John Raphael McKimmie was born 1906 in Waterville Co. Kerry his father William Daniel Cooper McKimmie was a telegraphist working for the Commercial Cable Company on the trans atlantic cable. He was born in Scotland

I have picked up John Raphael returning from the Azores in 1936, the CCC had a station there, he was a telegraphist like his father, I have also picked him up working in the CCC in London 1862.

He appears in the London telephone book 1983 living in:

13, Chinbrook Crescent, London S.E. 12

I would love to know who he married and did he have children, his address in 1936 was Princes St, Glasgow, he must have moved to London after that.

Any help would be very much appreciated.
