Derry (Londonderry) / Balteagh Pres. records
« on: Thursday 26 May 22 21:13 BST (UK)  »
Looking for any entries for the Long family of Drumsurn Lower and Upper, the lands owned march on the south of Lower to the North of Upper.
I have a Robert Long (1801-1859) who had at least two sons James 1837 and Samuel 1839
Robert is on Griffiths and name crossed out to James Long. John long in Upper was son of William Long ( died before 1863) he married and move to Galliagh in Londonderry.
But the Tithe of 1828 has Matthew Long in Upper and Lower, Samuel Long and Samuel jnr in Lower, William in Upper and William jnr in Lower and Upper. The 1831 census has f families - William and Matthew in Lower, and William, Widow and Samuel in Upper.
The family were Pres. except Samuel ( son of Robert 1859) who married a Rc and moved to Galliagh.
Is there any baptismal records for Balteagh Pres before 1864 and is there any burial transcriptions of the graveyard. I don't know how to figure out who belongs to what family.
Thanks

Derry (Londonderry) / Ballylintagh Presbyterian church.
« on: Tuesday 14 January 14 18:18 GMT (UK)  »
I'm trying to locate any possible marriage and baptismal register for this church.
In PRONI there is only a marriage register from 1872 to 1883.
BUT I have a marriage certificate for a Joseph Archibald (formerly of Bellisle, father Nathaniel) of Collins. later Lisnamuck,  near Aghadowey, who married Elizabeth Workman, daughter of William Workman (deceased) of Culdrum, this was in 1846, the first registered marriage in that church -- BUT it is NOT in the NI marriage indexes nor any mention of it in the GRO Belfast - I did get a copy of the cert from Dublin, it appears on the Mormons website Irish marriage indexes, with volume and page number.
Does anybody know where the older marriage register is ????
William Workman is probably the one buried in Aghadowey Pres. graveyard in 1833 with a son William.
Is there any information as to his wife's name ?

Derry (Londonderry) / Boyce of Cah townland, near Garvagh
« on: Tuesday 14 January 14 18:09 GMT (UK)  »
Trying to sort out the Boyce family of Cah townland.
I have a 2 Thomas Boyce's from Griffiths valuation - one a farmer, one a carpenter.
The farmer definitely had David born 1842 married Jane McLaughlin of Cah, later moved into Coleraine.
and possibly a Hugh.
Thomas, the farmer, might have had a father Robert - who had another son Robert who married Hester Moody, possibly a Matthew married Eliza Young (he died 1867 aged 48)
Are there any baptisms which might sort out the family or is anybody researching the Boyce family of this area.
I cannot figure out Thomas the carpenter.

Australia / eileen Mary Frances Phillips
« on: Monday 11 March 13 10:15 GMT (UK)  »
Eileen Mary Frances Phillips was born in Edinburgh, Scotland in 1909 - parents were Philip Gordon Phillips and his wife Agnes Hamilton. He was a medical student at that time, being born in Tunbridge Wells, Kent in 1885.
I believe that this was their only child - she emigrated to Australia and died in Victoria, date unknown.
I do not know if she was married, but there are several 'hits' on ancestry.com for her appearing on several trees -
If someone knows anything about her or her parents, or can put me in touch with one of the people who submitted the ancestry trees - please get in touch with me at (*)
My main interest is the Hamilton line - Agnes being a 1st cousin once removed.

Is there a wills index to cover the two death years ?
Were there any death notices in the local newspapers that might mention the girls ?
Presumably both buried in Troon ?
Cannot find any mention of a marriage or death for the girls on Scotlands People.
Trying to find these two girls and their families.
Many thanks

Renfrewshire / Hamilton children - lost orphans ?
« on: Saturday 03 March 12 20:33 GMT (UK)  »
John William Hamilton ( a coalmaster) married Agnes Robina McGregor Smith in 1884 in Glasgow.
They lived at Albert Road, Cathcart.
He died 11 Dec 1893 - she died 29 May 1895.
They left four children - James born 1884, Agnes 1886, John William 1887 and Margaret McQueen Hamilton born 1889. all born Cambuislang - the eldest child was aged 11 years when his mother died.
Both parents left a will, and inventories, with substantial bequests.
I had presumed that the children would have been looked after by one of their aunts or uncles.
On the mothers side - NO
Same for the fathers side - I have researched each aunt and uncle on the 1891, 1901 census - none of the above children were with them in 1901.
The scottish origins web site search engine is pretty hopeless for looking for an indivudial on the census, no birth location is mentioned until you purchase the census extract - so it makes it rather difficult to try and find any of these children.
Has anyone any ideas of how to search for them ??
Many thanks - David Beck
