Peeblesshire / John Douglas
« on: Friday 17 June 11 20:34 BST (UK)  »
I am searching for the birth certificate of John Douglas.  According to the 1871 cenus he was born in Peebles in about 1863.  I have searched the Scotlands People website but cannot find any details of him.  His parents were Alexander Douglas and Mary Thomson and they married in 1863.  I have tried searching for John Thomspn just in case he was born before his parents married but still cannot find any trace of him.  I have found birth details of his brother Duncan who was born in 1864.

John himself married in 1888 to Maggie McLagan.  John's occupation is a Blacksmith.

If anyone has any ideas as to how i may be able to trace him I would be grateful.

Lincolnshire / Charles Smith

I dont know whether any one will be able to help me.  In the Bristol Arcade in Sleaford there is a plaque which states "Post Horses and Carriages For Hire - Charles Smith Proprietor".  I am not sure what date this relates to.  My late uncle told me that Charles Smith was a relative of ours but i cannot find a Charles Smith in my family who would have done this as an occupation.  The only Charles Smith i can find was a market gardener who was my great grandfather.  Does any one have any ideas how i may be able to go about tracing this Charles Smith to see if he was indeed related to my family.

Many thanks

Immigrants & Emigrants - General / David Painter
« on: Saturday 04 September 10 22:00 BST (UK)  »
I am trying to trace the whereabouts of David Painter born in Auchtermuchty, Scotland in 1890.  He married Elsie Gall Yule in 1923.  I have come across a photograph on ancestry.co.uk taken of the North Public School in Auchtermuchty featuring a David Painter which states that he was a Master Grocer in Durban, S.A.  I presume that this may be the same David Painter that I am trying to trace and that he emigrated to South Africa.  The photograph was taken from the Fife News Almanac in 1931.  Does anyone have any ideas how I could find out if this is the same David Painter.  I am sorry if I have posted this in the wrong place.

Any help  would be appreciated

Northamptonshire / Looking for relatives of Robert Tebbutt
« on: Sunday 09 May 10 16:59 BST (UK)  »
I am looking into the Tebbutt family who came from the Raunds area.

I have found the marriage of Robert Tebbutt to Lydia Gostick  on 1 July 1809 in St Peters Church Raunds on Free Reg, but can find no trace of any children.   As far as I know they had a son James born in 1816 in Raunds. James  went on to marry Sarah who died and he then married Jane Adams. They went on to have 6 children.

I would be interested to hear from anyone researching this family who could give me any information as to whether Robert and Lydia had any more children and information about the family generally

Lincolnshire Lookup Requests / Cook Family - 1941 cenus
« on: Tuesday 27 April 10 23:21 BST (UK)  »
i am having difficulty tracing the Cook family who lived in Langtoft Lincolnshire beyond 1851.  Their names were Thomas Cook born 1795 who married Martha Cook.  They had three children George born 1834, James born 1837 and Taylor born 1839, all were born in Langtoft.

I have managed to trace them up to 1861 but can find nothing of the family on the 1941 census.  i have tried searching all counties but can still find nothing relating to them.

If anyone has any ideas it would be appreciated.

Many thanks
