Hi and Happy Easter to one and all, hope youve all enjoyed  the Easter break.
Can anybody please give me a clue to the date of this photo.
The lady third from the left is supposed to be my great grandmother, she died in 1898,aged 49. This pic looks like 1930/40 ish to me. Does anybody have any clues as to the age of the lady third from the left?
Thanks,
 Ivor

Free Photo Restoration & Date Old Photographs / Anyone up for a challenge
« on: Sunday 21 February 10 10:03 GMT (UK)  »
Hi all,
As the boards are a bit quiet id thought id post this pic of my mum., Ive had several goes at it, but with no real success.
I guesstimate mums age as about 4 or 5, so this would have been taken in 1932/33, and i would imagine it was taken in the grounds of the old Bisops palace in St Davids Pembrokeshire as my grandfather was the caretaker there and they lived on site.
Please dont do this at the expence of other requests.

The Common Room / illegit,s surname change
« on: Sunday 27 December 09 13:35 GMT (UK)  »
My 6x gt,gdfather while married, had 2 children with a mistress, born in 1782 &1784, they were baptised under the maiden name of the mistress, Meacher, this mistress then married someone else, so 6x gt,gdfather found another mistress, and she had 4 children by him, all baptised under her maiden name of Hatch. After 6x gt,gdfathers wife died in 1797 he married his second mistress. The 4 children that were born before the marriage under the name Hatch then used the surname of my 6xgt,gdfather.
Would the children  just have adopted the surname or would there be some legal or church proceedure to go through?
also i have found the second child from the first mistress living with 6x gt gdfather and his new wife, but he has retained the surname Meacher, why did he retain his estranged mothers maiden name and not use his fathers surname?
I have copies of bastardy bonds for all 6 children where both mistresses have charged my 6x gt gdfather with being the father and he has acknowledged them, proving he is the father.

Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Reading boys home uniform
« on: Sunday 20 September 09 19:18 BST (UK)  »
The photo is of my father in Forbury Gardens Reading, circa 1933/34, he was sent to a boys home after the death of his mother, but i am unable to find out which one.
can anybody recognise the uniform and give me a clue please.
The photo was originaly b&w, i have added the colour, so they may not be the  right colours on the uniform.
Other clues , dad described the hall as having very tall windows with bars on, and it was near to the Huntly & Palmers biscuit factory.
Any help appreciated thanks.
