Lincolnshire / What's in a name?
« on: Sunday 16 June 13 14:15 BST (UK) »Hi Everyone,
I'm hoping someone can help me. On 8th May 1715 one of my ancestors, George CHANTRY was married to Mary HARE at Lincoln in the church of St Peter at Gowts – the church is still standing. I'm curious what “at Gowts” refers to but so far Dictionaries and Gazetteers consulted haven’t helped! I'd be grateful if someone can help satisfy my curiosity.
