Is anyone researching the Grumbley/Grumley/Grumly family of Mountmellick/Meelick/Rosenalis/Cappabeg areas of Co Laios (Queens)?

Other (possible) connected families include O'Neill/Mahon/Kearney.

I would like to make contact and share information.

Thanks

Kilkenny / Butler's of Cloghpook, Kilkenny
« on: Tuesday 21 September 10 23:36 BST (UK)  »
I would like to hear from anyone who may be researching this family.

Known marriages and associated families are:
1929 Michael Butler & Mary Byrne - Tullabrin, Kilkenny
1877 Patrick Butler & Bridget Brennan - St.Johns, Kilkenny
1829 Michael Butler & Catherine Donnelly - St.Johns, Kilkenny
This branch of the Butler's has a 300 year plus association with a small farm in Cloghpook.

I have checked the 1901 & 1911 census and spent a small fortune looking for records on the RootsIreland web site.

Ideas for additional avenues for research would be greatly appreciated

Thanks, Jim

Europe / John Frederick Dreher
« on: Monday 13 September 10 22:02 BST (UK)  »
I am looking for any help tracing John's history.

He married Elizabeth Wathall in Derby, England 1835 and died in Derby 1853. I believe all the Drehers of Derby are descended from this marriage and it is likely that all the Drehers of Manchester are too!

However, all I know about John's history is he was born c1816 in Germany (or possibly Austria) and he was a Pork Butcher.

Not a lot to go on but here's hoping.

Thanks.

Berwickshire / Bleachfield Papermill - Ayton
« on: Thursday 08 July 10 17:29 BST (UK)  »
Does anybody know any of the history of the Bleachfield Papermill in Ayton, Berwickshire...when founded, owners, operations, employees etc.

My ancestors worked there for a number of generations during the 1800's...as it appears did most of Ayton!

I am also curious to know if the Bleachfield Mill had any associations with any mills in the Penicuik area (Ladykirk?) as one ancestor appears to have spent his time living between Ayton and Penicuik but always working in a papermill.

Derbyshire / Dreher family - Derby
« on: Thursday 08 July 10 16:02 BST (UK)  »
Does anyone have any connections or interest in the Dreher family of Derby c1830's to 1880's?

John Dreher is originally described as a pork butcher from Foreign Parts. He married Elizabeth Wathall in 1835. His son Thomas Dreher worked as a cab driver/groom and married Emma Ball in 1873. By 1880 he was in Salford/Manchester where his daughter Eliza married Samuel Walker in 1902.

Samuel and Eliza are my maternal great grandparents.

I would like to learn more about the Dreher family as I lose my branch in the early 1900's.

Cumberland Lookup Requests / Greig - MI look up Carlisle
« on: Wednesday 07 July 10 21:41 BST (UK)  »
My Greig ancestors moved from Scotland to Carlisle in the 1850's before my branch moved on to Manchester c1910.

They lived in the St Cuthbert's within and without areas based on the census returns.

I do not know where they are likely to have been buried or even if any monuments were erected.

Does anyone know likely resting places and if any MI records exist?

Cheshire Lookup Requests / Walker of Altrincham
« on: Tuesday 06 July 10 22:24 BST (UK)  »
I have a John Walker born in Altrincham c1855 (1881 census Manchester/1891,1901,1911 census Salford)
He married Mary Jane Lowe in Hulme, Manchester in 1874. His father is given as Thomas Walker a Labourer.
I may (?) have his birth cert giving DOB as 25/5/1854...father Thomas Walker a Labourer and mother Ellen McLoughlin. Thomas and Ellen married in Manchester 27/8/1848.
Thomas Walker's father is given as Samuel Walker also a Labourer.
I am having trouble finding John Walker in the census returns prior to 1881 and therefore having trouble confirming any of the above.
I have no details for any siblings of John to help either.
Any ideas, help or contact with anybody interested in this family would be most appreciated.
