Montgomeryshire Lookup Requests / Newport Market marriage look up
« on: Friday 02 November 12 16:28 GMT (UK)  »
I am not sure if anyone can do this, I just want to make sure I have the right person before I purchase this certificate. If it can't be done, then no worries!

Marriage in Sept. quarter, 1927 for Hannah M. Kearney and Andreas Caravias, Newport Market, Glamorgan, Gwent, Monmouthshire. 11a, page 613.

I am hoping this is my grandmother's long lost sister. If it is, Hannah should list her father as William Kearney. If not, the search continues!

Thanks in advance!

World War Two / Looking for a Home Guard Unit
« on: Friday 02 November 12 16:02 GMT (UK)  »
My Dad and his brother remember well their father serving in the Home Guard in WWII. They recall arguing over who got to hand him his gun when he left to join his unit and loved looking at his uniform. Both men want to get their father's records (though we know there might not be much info on them) but we have no idea what unit he served in!
The family lived in Newbold upon Avon in Warwickshire. Is there anyone who can tell me what was the closest unit (Rugby, perhaps?) or of there is a web site that can tell me?
Thank you so much!

Yorkshire (North Riding) / Completed with thanks! Hinderwell Marriage
« on: Saturday 25 August 12 18:56 BST (UK)  »
Hi!
I am looking to find out if anyone has access to do a look up for a marriage in Hinderwell, for the year 1832. I found the record on the LDS site, but it is so very basic. Martha Robinson married Richard Mittles on 15 March, 1832. I am looking to see if I can learn the rest of the info that is on the parish record. Who witnessed it, what parish the bride and groom came from, etc.
If anyone is able to help in anyway, thank you in advance!

Is it possible to have a look up for a Sunderland marriage? It is between Elizabeth Laburn and John Burnicle, in the June quarter of 1889. I am trying to find out who Elizabeth's father was. She might be a relation of mine.
Thank you so much in advance for any help!  :)

Northumberland Lookup Requests / Wallsend Electoral look up
« on: Sunday 17 October 10 20:11 BST (UK)  »
Hello to all!
Is it possible to have a electoral look up for the following addresses for certain years? I was told the best way to find out is : ask the wonderful members of this board! The addresses in question are 53 Sharp Road in Wallsend from 1910 to 1920 and 14 York Street, also Wallsend, from 1920 to 1942. I do know that members of the Lynch family lived at both addresses, Mary Ellen and her brother James and their half-brother Thomas Kearney. But I would like to find out how long they lived there, and if anyone else lived with them. Huge questions could be answered! If this is not possible, then thanks anyways for looking!

The Common Room / What happened to Martha Hannah Kearney?
« on: Wednesday 13 October 10 22:23 BST (UK)  »
Not sure where to put this post, so I will try here.
Martha Hannah Kearney was born on 22 May, 1903 in Fullwell, Sunderland, to Sarah Ann Stephenson and William Kearney. She was their 3rd child. A son William was born, and died, in 1904. My Grandmother was born in 1907. Around 1906 or 1907 Sarah Ann took up with another man. In the 1911 census William is living with his two oldest children, my grandmother is living with Sarah's parents, and Martha Hannah, now called Hannah, is living in Wallsend, Northumberland with William's full brother (Thomas) and his half-siblings (Mary Ellen and James Lynch). After 1911 I lose Hannah. Can't find a death record, have found some marriage ones, for a Hannah Kearney, but they just don't seem to add up. I know what happens to all the other children, but not her. And it is driving me crazy! Not sure if anyone can help with some new ideas or not, but I must say it felt good to get it off my chest! Thanks!

Northumberland Completed Look up Requests / COMPLETED WITH THANKS! Electoral Rolls
« on: Wednesday 13 October 10 16:33 BST (UK)  »
Not sure if I have the right place for this question, so I am sorry if I have it in the wrong area. Is there an e-mail address, or a website where I can contact someone about the electoral rolls for Wallsend? I have an address or two I would like to look up, but I am not sure where I can start. The years would be from 1900 to about 1942. Thank you for any help anyone can give me.

Durham / Trying to solve family story
« on: Monday 28 June 10 00:46 BST (UK)  »
While growing up, my grandparents told the story of how my great grandmother ran a fish and chips shop in Sunderland. They said it was hers, not her husbands, because she was worried he would gamble it away or lose it due to being in dept. But they never said where in Sunderland, how long she owned it, or what in what years she had it. Is there any way I can find out whether this story is true or not?
Her name was Isabella Leybourne. She married Charles Leybourne in 1904, so if she ran a chippy, it was after that. I also wonder if she had the chippy between the years of 1913 and 1921, I think she was not with Charles between those years. (no children born in those years, and she had been giving birth almost every other year. Odd.) I do know the marriage was very rocky. I have the addressess of where she was living when her 6 children were born, if that helps. And I do know that Charles was a fish monger for awhile, and I contacted Sunderland local studies back in 2008. They only had a listing for Charles as a fried fish dealer, living at 55 Sunderland Rd in 1923 and at Morgan Street in Southwick in 1937. So, where do I go from here?
Thanks in advance to any that can help!

Armed Forces / Completed with thanks! Naval questions
« on: Monday 07 June 10 00:28 BST (UK)  »
I just recently found the Naval records for my great-great uncle, John Laybourn. He served as a moulder in the Royal Navy for many years, begining in 1903. He served on quite a few ships, the last being the HMS Algerine in 1910. On 5 May, 1910, under the "discharged, whither, and for what cause" section, it says "Run (!)". Does that mean he jumped ship? I found that he later turned up in Canada, where he joined their army and ended up dying in Belgium during WWI. (I can't find any immigration records for him in the Canadian records, which makes me think he did jump ship.) So, if he jumped ship, is there any way I can find out where the Algerine was in May of 1910, or is that impossible? Thanks for any help in advance! (sorry if this sounds stupid!)
