Australia / NSW Marriage Certs
« on: Saturday 21 November 09 12:30 GMT (UK)  »
Having found the couples names and date of marriage in NSW in 1911,I would like to know what other information would be on the marriage cert if I purchased one.  Would it have   the father's names and their occupations?
If the Groom became a Doctor of Med ,
is there a place where his educational background and parentage would be recorded ?  Any help would be appreciated.

Immigrants & Emigrants - General / 1875 passengers to Aust ?
« on: Tuesday 10 November 09 00:37 GMT (UK)  »
Where does one find lists of Passengers, leaving England and traveling to Australia  around 1875 as a paying passenger, (where he settled).Sailed to Aus ,May 1875 on the "Nubia" disembarked in Melbourne. I have been told these details, but would like to see the lists.

His father, I think visited him ,before 1881 and returned to Eng. I do not have any details of ship or when this may have occurred.
Ancestry seems to be very limited and mainly "passengers coming in to England"

Hope some one can help.

Buckinghamshire / William MILLS and wife Letitia
« on: Saturday 31 October 09 23:50 GMT (UK)  »
I am trying to find  the Marriage Reg of a William Mills and his wife Letitia.
Their nine children I have found all baptized  at  All Saints Parish Church,Great Marlow. First child 1796  last child 1813. The last reg stated father's occupation
was a carpenter.  The last child was given a middle name of Elderfield--which I suspect might have been mum's maiden name
I have asked Buchs FHS to look between 1786 and 1820--they did not find anything. Not sure if that means they just check Gt Marlow or all over Bucks. Of course the marriage may have occurred in another county.I have also failed to find them in the census 1841 or 1851
Any help I would greatly appreciate.

Channel Islands Lookup Requests / Marriage lookup 1871-81 in Jsy
« on: Monday 26 October 09 00:29 GMT (UK)  »
Have been searching  for a very long time for this marriage.
It was a second marriage for Rev James Nicholas Hammond
to Annie Broughton, daughter of the late John Vickery Broughton.
JNH  was still a widower in 1871 but not by 81.

He was well known  and a Prof of English Litt at Victoria College
He and both wives are buried at St. Saviours. He died in 85.
I understand he addressed different congregations on the island Jsy
I have been told some parish records have been lost ??
But am not satisfied with that. I have searched and searched in Eng--no joy!
Hope I can get some help

Occupation Interests / school teachers
« on: Friday 23 October 09 00:58 BST (UK)  »
In what year did a qualification to be a teacher become required?

I know that the clergy often became teachers as they were usually educated quite well, and often did not want to "go into the church"but how did others become teachers.

By the amount of children  written as "scholars" on the censuses,it appears many children did have an education of some sort , at least in the 3 R's.
When was education made "compulsory"

I am interested in the period from late 1700's on wards. In England.
