Anglesey / help with place names please
« on: Saturday 20 May 17 00:18 BST (UK)  »
Can anyone help me with the attached place names please?  The top image is from a marriage register in Holyhead dated 1858.  The 3rd entry on the last image is from the 1861 census.

Yorkshire (West Riding) Lookup Requests / Castleford Freemen and Voters
« on: Saturday 27 February 16 12:32 GMT (UK)  »
Can anyone lookup the names of any Freemen or Voters called LOWTHER in Castleford between 1750 and 1800 please. I am trying to make a link between the Castleford LOWTHERS and one in East Yorkshire, who at the age of 25 was able to vote and later purchased his Freemans rights.

I have found a marriage index record on familysearch but the place name just says Sculcoates.  I know that Sculcoates in Hull is a huge area with lots of churches.  I emailed familysearch to ask if they could identify the church but an auto reply stated that they do not give help via email, chat or phone anymore.  So I am stuck. (Ancestry and FindMyPast have the details)

Can anyone identify the church from this reference please.

"England Marriages, 1538–1973 ," database, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:NL7L-QQC : accessed 22 February 2016), George Owen and Sarah Lowther, 12 Aug 1812; citing Sculcoates,York,England, reference ; FHL microfilm 919,438.

I am researching the lives of those born deaf in the 1840’s in England for my dissertation and I am looking for examples.  I am interested in all aspects of their lives in particular how they were brought up and who by, did they have deaf parents or siblings, their education and occupation, who did they marry and did they have deaf children.

If you have someone like this in your family tree, I would be interested to know about them and their background.

I am working my way through the 1851 census returns but known examples will be useful.

Yorkshire (West Riding) / Searching for Charles Henry ACKROYD
« on: Monday 03 November 14 13:34 GMT (UK)  »
I am trying to identify Charles Henry ACKROYD before his 2nd marriage to Emily SOCKETT in Crofton All Saints on 8 June 1914.  This states he was a widower born about 1868 and his father was Henry (dec) also a miner.  His signature looks as if he has just learnt to write his name.

I appreciate his age may have been altered as he is much older than his spouse, and when he died in 1948 (Hemsworth) his age puts his year of birth as 1863.

Few of the Ackroyds in West Yorks seem to be miners but I have not been able to find Charles Henry on the census returns nor confirm his birth or his first marriage.  I have looked at several possible marriages on Ancestry but the father's names and grooms signatures do not match.
I did wonder if he was illegitimate and later took on a step fathers name of Ackroyd, but there are too many Charles Henry's born in the 1860's. I don't even known where he was born.

Can any one help me to find his parents?

Canada / Emigration Agents
« on: Friday 31 October 14 10:40 GMT (UK)  »
Does anyone have any general information or research experience regarding emigration agents (typically from England to Canada early 1800's)?  I would like to know what they did, and are there any records about them.

My ancestor was a tailor but also worked as an agent between Norfolk, UK to Quebec between 1800 and 1860, but other than a couple of posters bearing his name and stating he can help once travellers have arrived in Quebec I do not really know what this role entailed.  Any general info would be very welcome.

Occupation Interests / Miners in census returns
« on: Tuesday 21 October 14 11:39 BST (UK)  »
Being unable to find a miner in West Yorkshire in the 1911 census I am wondering if returns were made for those who were down in the mine at the time the census was given.  If so does anyone know if I can access these online?

Cornwall Completed Lookup Requests / Penzance marriage registers - Jelbert/Mitchell
« on: Saturday 19 October 13 15:13 BST (UK)  »
Could anyone look up the marriage of Muriel M JELBERT to John J MITCHELL in Penzance (sorry I don't know which parish) in the December qtr of 1936 (as per FreeBMD).  I am trying to find the details of John (occupation and age) and his father so I can find the correct birth for him.

I know they later moved to Wallasey where last child was born at the end of 1951 and Muriel remarried in 1955, but I cannot find a death for John J (James?) Mitchell to help me locate his birth.

Thanks in advance.
