Australia / Help with William BROWN Convict
« on: Tuesday 01 July 14 15:01 BST (UK)  »
Hi All,

I have posted a previous topic on this, however, my research has since taken a new path [http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=568668.msg4208909#msg4208909]

Details are as follows:

William Brown Born c1809 (Derby, Derbyshire, England) - Note From son's baptism record Nathaniel Brown (born/ Bapt Sydney, New South Wales, Australia)

Married Matilda Watson c1843 (Sydney, New South Wales, Australia)

William Brown Died 1890 (Sydney, New South Wales Australia)

I have gone through hundreds of records for convicts to New South Wales, between 1828 - 1843 as on his death estimated arrival in the colony was 1830 (stated he'd been in the state of NSW for 60 years in 1890.

However, I have found inconsistent information and it has been somewhat unclear for an age 1809 he would have been 21 when arriving in Australia from the UK.

I believe it could be the Mermaid and or the Lady Nugent, but I think the age is wrong for the Lady Nugent and he may have died earlier. Leaving the mermaid, but I haven't found consistent information to confirm the record is correct.

If someone could assist in helping me clarify as there have been so many William Brown's/Browne's and aliased convicts with the name William Brown I have gone through I'm still not entirely sure I have the correct record.

Thanks in Advance
Akira

Hi All,

I have been searching the census records to no end, I found him on the 1851 census in Yorkshire,

Source Citation: Class: HO107; Piece: 2295; Folio: 696; Page: 16; GSU roll: 87492-87494. 1851.

I searched in surrey as two of the children Ellen and Joseph Jnr were born in Mitcham Surrey,

I found the family all of them except for Joseph Fletcher Senior. on the 1841 census in Surrey !! of all places.

Source Citation: Class: HO107; Piece: 1079; Book: 5; Civil Parish: Mitcham; County: Surrey; Enumeration District: 2; Folio: 24; Page: 5; Line: 11; GSU roll: 474665.

I haven't been able to find him anywhere in surrey so far too many Joseph Fletcher's.

Joseph Fletcher was born 1806/7 Newton Heath, Lancashire, England two noted sources above have his marriage to Mary KIDD in 1823 Prestwich, Lancashire, England he passed in 1866 Huddersfield, Yorkshire, England.

1851 - Occupation - Block Printer
1861 - Occupation - Calico Printer

One thought that springs to mind surrey has a few prisons haven't been able to source any records to confirm / deny this.

Thanks in advance

Australia / Annie McINNES / MacINNES Parents Lookup
« on: Monday 19 March 12 03:18 GMT (UK)  »
Hi All,

I have had some trouble connecting the dots so to speak for an Annie McInnes / MacInnes she's a tough nut to trace back.

I have found two parents and unsure which would be the correct linage before purchasing a Certificate transcription.

I have no Death Certificate and the reference I have found has no Parent's Listed....

Annie Lynch 1902 Sydney (BDM NSW) 12134/1092

Details are as follows:

Annie Mcinnes / Macinnes born Sydney c1853 as per he sons 1872 birth record (Charles Lynch)

The two records match but haven't found a correlating record marriage with sufficient information.

Anne Mcinnes born to Neil & Janet Mcinnes (nee McColl) they were married in Sydney c1846 St Andrew's Sydney. (NSW BDM)

Ann McInnes / MacInnes born to Alexander & Mary c1852 Place unknown (NSW BDM)

a fresh pair of eyes will help with this one  :)

Australia / Free Church of England 41 Burton St Darlinghurst
« on: Friday 16 March 12 12:17 GMT (UK)  »
Hi All,

I'm looking for the location for the Free Church of England, 41 Burton St, South Head Road Sydney.

The minister officiating at the time was a WM F X BAILEY (William Francis Xavier BAILEY)

The following is all I can find of him ...

http://adb.anu.edu.au/biography/bailey-william-1731

He appears an interesting man as this quoted text from the above biography has me concerned about the marriage and to source the original registers. In February 1843 Bailey was convicted of uttering a forged promissory note for £2875 in favour of his sister, was sentenced to transportation for life and in August arrived in Van Diemen's Land in the Gilmore.

As this passage if i can find the record could be a marriage of my ancestors In 1871 he was sentenced to six months imprisonment for improperly marrying a minor.

If anyone can help would be much appreciated.

Australia / Lookup Help BRICKWALL William BROWN or BRUCE Born c1809
« on: Sunday 27 November 11 11:19 GMT (UK)  »
Hi All,

I require some help in order to track down an ancestor hes been a brickwall for a while now and haven't really budged.

William Brown or Bruce would have been born c1809 London, London, England as per his death Certificate.(his Parents are listed as William Brown and Emma) (Father's Occupation is a Blacksmith)

He Arrived in NSW c1830 as per his death Certificate. (I haven't found an immigration record for him)

He married in 1843 to Matilda Watson in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia on his marriage certificate before 1865 wasn't mandatory to put down parents names so relying on the information on the death certificate.

On his death, in 1889 Sydney, New South Wales, Australia his certificate Lists William Brown & Emma as his parent on his death Certificate. He was aged in 1889 if he hasn't lied in c1809 (aged 80Y)

A fellow researcher has told me possibly his surname was Bruce and not Brown.

Any help would me greatly appreciated as this has been a brickwall for about 6 years now hopefully a fresh set of eyes will help.

Regards
Akira
