Aberdeenshire / moir family of ellon
« on: Sunday 02 December 12 05:25 GMT (UK)  »
I'm just putting together all the pieces of my family puzzle, and am hoping someone can help me. I need to know if Alexander Moir (b.27/1/1806), son of Francis Moir and Margaret Pirie, is the same Alexander who married Ann Hall in Slains 26 November 1831. and if so, what happened to this family? I can't seem to find anything about them after their son Alexander was baptised in 1832

Cheshire / Elizabeth Plaw
« on: Thursday 14 July 11 06:40 BST (UK)  »
I have recieved my great-grandfathers birth certificate, which shows he was born Charles Plaw on the 16th September 1886 at 128 St Anne St, Chester to Elizabeth Plaw, no father named, with his birth registered 16th October 1886. He was taken into the household of John and Jane Thomas at the age of 5. I can find no trace of Elizabeth after this time, no death or marriage or any other children. Would love to know if anyone can help me with any other avenues to search for Elizabeth.

Flintshire / Who did Charles belong to?
« on: Friday 08 April 11 05:05 BST (UK)  »
I am searching for possibly the birth parents of my great-grandfather Charles Plaw Thomas who was born 1887 in Chester and died in Sydney Australia in 1949 after being hit by a train. I have a mention of him in the 1891 England census (age 5) as being a visitor to John and Jane Thomas, whose other children are all born in Saltney, and then in the 1901 census as being their son aged 14. John is listed as his father on his death certificate. If John's parents are Samuel Thomas and Margaret Norbury, then I can find no mention of Charles amongst John's siblings with the exception of Thomas who is proving somewhat elusive. I am quite willing to obtain his birth certificate, but I am hoping someone may have some knowledge of this family. John Thomas was born in Dodleston abt 1853 and Jane was born in Chester in abt 1849. Any help would be appreciated

Just  wondering if anyone knows if the Edward Woodcock that was transported to Tasmania in 1843 on the ship Cressy is the same Edward Woodcock that was married to Mary Ann Leaver in St Josephs Church, Launceston in 1853.  The family later moved to Deloraine.

« on: Sunday 05 July 09 08:48 BST (UK)  »
Just wondering if anyone may know which branch of the Beamonnt/Beaumont family Henry Beamonnt/Beaumont and his spouse Jane/Janae Woodheade came from?  Henry was born in Almondbury in 1532.

I have been in contact with other members of this family but unfortunately their research did not go back this far.

The Common Room / Latin names?
« on: Friday 22 May 09 03:05 BST (UK)  »
What would the names "Gualteri" and "Iacobi" be in english? They have been taken from parish records in Almondbury, Yorkshire in the early to middle 1500's and I assume they are in Latin. They are from the Beamonnt family (my husband's ancestor was Henry/Henrici)

London and Middlesex / frances charlton
« on: Sunday 17 May 09 01:57 BST (UK)  »
I am searching for any information regarding Frances C Charlton born June 1945, Holborn

If and when she left England for New Zealand, and if she went alone or with family. It is believed she arrived there around 1863 but as yet I have been unable to find any record of this. She was married in Christchurch to James Edward Mills in 1864

Her fathers name on her death certificate, registered in NSW Australia, is listed as first name unknown but his occupation was leather merchant.

Her mothers name is listed as Clara Harris, but she could have remarried.

It is possible she had a sister, Sophia born 1847?, but there is no mention of her or the father in 1851 census.

Any information or suggestions for websites to check out would be greatly appreciated
