Free Photo Restoration & Date Old Photographs / DOWN family Canada
« on: Tuesday 05 May 20 22:00 BST (UK)  »
Hi:  Could this photo be restored.
The photo is my Down family.  The gentleman is my great grandfather Charles W. Down.  The little girl on the right is my mother Dolly.  The photo was taken in Toronto circa 1916.

Thanks,

Jerri

Hi:
Michael  Fitzgerald is my 2nd great uncle.  He was born and died in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

I've googled the photographer S. J. Dixon and he was in business from 1872 until 1891 at Yonge and King Street in Toronto.  But a footnote states he was only at this location between 1880-1885.

Is it possible to clean up this photo?

Thanks,

Jerri, Toronto, Ontario, Canada

Armed Forces / Soldier - Can you identify the uniform?
« on: Tuesday 05 February 19 22:47 GMT (UK)  »

Hi:
I don't know which relative this man might be.  The picture was in my grandmother's possession, so it might be her nephew.  I have several candidates that were born around the 1890's.  I thought he might be a soldier from WW1 Canadian Expeditionary but I really don't know.

Any suggestions?  This picture has been restored from the photo restoration forum here.  The original is sepia and there is nothing written on the back of it as to date, photographer etc.

Thanks,

Jerri

Hi:
Can this picture be restored?  I believe it is a John Cannon who was born in England and served in Canada in the 71st Foot Royal Canadian Rifles in the 1840's.  It was in my grandmother's possession when she died and it's believed to be her first husband's grandfather.

Thanks

Armed Forces / British Army - 71st Foot and Royal Canadian Rifle
« on: Friday 16 March 18 12:56 GMT (UK)  »

I am researching a John Cannon, born in England who served as a Private in the 71st Foot Regiment.  Two children were baptised in 1844 in Sorel Quebec, Canada and in 1846 in LaPrairie Quebec, Canada and possibly a 3rd child not yet located.  Both are suburbs of Montreal, Quebec.  He is listed on both as a Private in the 71st Foot.  His wife is listed as a Joanne Bowie/Bowry.  One of the Godparents was listed as a Margaret Mathews who originally was married to a Crispin Churcher who was a private in the 71st foot, 1st Battalion.

John Cannon died May 9, 1849 while stationed in Kingston, Ontario.  He is listed as a Private, Royal Canadian Rifles.  There is a letter from Lt. Kingsmill stating that his widow and 2 children have been approved for rations.

I have found no other information of where he came from in England.  I have not located any census data.  His daughter identified herself as English origin on subsequent census.

I have checked the online Archives at Kew, but I'm not sure which series I should be checking.  Would there be an attestation record for this soldier?  Would there be any records of approval for rations?

Library and Archives Canada advised that all records of deceased soldiers were not kept in Canada.

Any advice on where to start my search at Kew would be helpful.  I live in Canada so I'm hoping there is something online.

Thanks,

Jerri

I am wondering if this picture could be cleaned up?  I think it's a tintype, taken about 1890 in either Toronto or Belleville Ontario Canada.

Thanks

Is it possible for this picture to be cleaned up?  It is my great grandfather George Thomas Meehan 1850-1919, picture taken in Toronto, Ontario.

Free Photo Restoration & Date Old Photographs / Isabella MCKNIGHT - Photo Restoration
« on: Monday 15 February 16 15:09 GMT (UK)  »
Hi:
Can this photo be cleaned up?  Once again a poor quality copy of a photo.

Isabella MCKNIGHT NEWTON was born in 1839 in Ontario, Canada and died in 1913 in Manitoba Canada.  Isabella is my 2x great grandmother.  Isabella and her husband Robert Newton left Huron County in Ontario for the wild west of Manitoba between 1871 - 1881.  I believe the picture was taken in Manitoba, possibly in Elton or Brandon.

Thanks,

Hi:  This is a copy of a photograph taken of the Meehan family, circa 1904 in Toronto, Canada.  I know it is in pretty poor condition.  The man on the left at the back is my grandfather George Meehan(b1882) and the older man seated is my great grandfather also George Meehan (b1851).

Can anything be done to improve it?

Thanks
