Stirlingshire / *COMPLETE* DRYSDALE - Alva
« on: Thursday 09 July 09 12:05 BST (UK)  »
Hey,
I'm looking for birth and death records for George DRYSDALE.

I have a Will for him which records his death as been on 8th Dec 1854 in Alva. But it doesn't seem to be recorded in either the statutory registers or old parish registers avaliable on SP (I'm wondering if he fell in the hole between the two...  :))

He was married to Catherine Duncan Davie on 29 Oct 1842. 5 kids (as far as I can tell).

Turns up in the 1851 census and I THINK I've also found him in the 41; both of which put his birth around 1809

Have 2 likely possibilites for birth certs, but am not sure which without more info.

Any help in tracking down the above, or additional information about him would be much appreciated.

Thanks
Heather

Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / *COMPLETE* Help with marriage certs...
« on: Friday 05 June 09 12:20 BST (UK)  »
I have 2 marriage certs, but to be honest, even though I can't make out half of the writing on them it almost seems as if they are for the same couple...

Cert 1 is for the marriage of Robert Cook to Mary Marsh (according to SP, I think it says Marshall), taking place in Tillicoultry on the 20th of the month.
Cert 2 is for the marriage of Robert Cook to Mary Marshall, taking place in Alva on the 1st of the month (witnesses listed, but I can't make out names).

From what I can make out on them, it seems like they got married in Alva, and then went on to Tillicoultry where the minister there entered it into the church records again... only that doesn't make a whole lot of sense...

Family History Beginners Board / records prior to 1800
« on: Friday 29 May 09 07:55 BST (UK)  »
Hey,
I'm hoping that someone can help me out. How do you continue with your tree prior to 1800? All of the records have become anoyingly scetchy and I can't seem to track down the information to go back any further (ie. parents names are not listed on records, death records don't list anything beyond name and date...) Where do you get the information to go back further? I've been checking parish records, but I don't know of any other sources and the parish records aren't giving me info anymore...

Thanks
Heather

Clackmannanshire / 1861 + 1871 census lookup please
« on: Thursday 28 May 09 09:08 BST (UK)  »
Could someone please look up Thomas Snaddon for me in the 1861 and 1871 census. He should be about 58 in the 61 census. Wife is Ann, children are: janet, agnes, charles, james, helen and may (janet, agnes, charles, james and helen may have moved out). Address probably coalsnaughton village. Am wondering who else may be living in their household (am trying to track down Thomas' parents James and Isabella, am hoping they may have moved in at some point).

Cheers

Clackmannanshire / more SNADDON'S...
« on: Wednesday 20 May 09 02:47 BST (UK)  »
I'm stuck again (this is beginning to become a bit of a regular occurance!!!)

I'm looking for the birth record of Thomas Snaddon (born ~1801), according to his death cert, parents are James SNADDON and Isabella HUNTER, for whom I can find neither death or wedding certs. SP is letting me down!!!

Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks :)

Occupation Interests / life expectancy of coalminers
« on: Monday 18 May 09 10:08 BST (UK)  »
Does any one have any idea what the rough life expectancy of a coalminer was around the 1800s? I have a coalminer ancestor who died when he was 82, which seems really old considering the time period (ESPECIALLY considering his occupation)...

Cheers

Clackmannanshire / *COMPLETE* I'm stuck!! Help please...
« on: Friday 08 May 09 07:38 BST (UK)  »
Hey,
I don't suppose anyone could help me out, I think I've hit a bit of a blank space in info. Nothing seems to be coming up!!!

I'm trying to track down ANYTHING relating to:

Thomas SNADDON married Elizabeth DRYSDALE on 21 Nov 1904 in Alloa. Wedding cert lists parents as Robert SNADDON and Margaret .... (can't read her maiden name, looks like it starts with 'Harr'... possibly ends in 'ver').

Have found Robert and Margaret SNADDON in the 1901 and 1891 census', but they aren't showing up prior to that. As far as I can tell, their oldest son was also a Robert, born ~1874, so I'm assuming that they married somewhere between 1870-1874

Robert born ~1845
Margaret born ~1856
Son, Thomas born ~1884

I can't seem to find birth or marriage records for any of them. The only marriage for a Robert and Margaret that is REMOTELY close, lists bride as Margaret BRYNE which doesn't look anything like what is on son's wedding cert.

Any ideas?

Cheers

Scotland / *COMPLETE* HELP!!! Scotish birth details
« on: Thursday 07 May 09 13:40 BST (UK)  »
Hey,
Please help!! I'm looking for scotish birth details. For some reason, none of the people that I'm looking for are showing up on freeBMD, FamilySearch or Ancestry. The only place that I've been able to locate them is on ScotlandsPeople and my family tree-ing is going to get very expensive, very quickly if I have to keep on finding everything through there. Does anyone have any suggestions? Are there any alternative sites that I might be able to try that will have the records that I am looking for on them?

Thanks :)

Clackmannanshire / *COMPLETED* SNADDON, Robert and Joseph 1800 - 1900
« on: Friday 01 May 09 03:44 BST (UK)  »
Hey,
I am a complete newbie at this, I've been doing the family history thing for a grand total of 2 day (whoo hoo!!!).
So far, I've managed about 5 generations on my Dad's side, but I can't find any record of birth or death for either Robert or Joseph.
What I do have:
Robert SNADDON married Janet Gentles Bernard in Tillicoultry, Clackmannan on 31 July 1891

Robert's parents were Joseph SNADDON (deceased) and Janet Cook. They were married at Carnock, Fife, Scotland on 19 Dec 1853.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks  :)
