Free Photo Restoration & Date Old Photographs / Any Dates please
« on: Sunday 15 August 10 22:41 BST (UK)  »
Can any info be gleaned from this photo to give a particular date?

I know the Foxfield Colliery was in existence from the early 1880's until eventually closing after difficult times in 1965.

The gentlemen concerned in the photo I presume to be the rescue team judging by the attire they are wearing

Thanks for looking

Al

Another of my recently found ancestral photo's, with no identifiable names.

So a possible time frame on the photo of this austere couple would be great

Thanks for looking

Searching some old photo's and as normal no names to identify them at all, I know they are close relatives by the fact of where they were stored.

I believe, and must stress it is a guess at this stage that this could be one Herbert Reynolds 1881 to 1933, I know he served as a Gunner in the RGA during the First World War. Therefore my Great Grandfather who I was pleased to research.

Would anyone be able to identify the Regiment from the uniform, the spurs on the boots are a bit confusing !

I have tried to zoom in on the Cap Badge but can not seem to bring it into focus very clearly

Any help would be gratefully received

Al

Yorkshire (North Riding) / Surname BROWN ! of Walsall or Yorkshire.
« on: Tuesday 29 December 09 17:44 GMT (UK)  »
Hi

Am at a huge crossroads in my family tree, the reason my Great Grandfather went by the name John William Brown !! why not Ebenezer instead of John  ;D

I am presuming that he was born in Walsall Staffs, his birthday I know for certain was 23rd May 1877, ( but unable to locate his birth certificate )

The Walsall birth I have gleaned from his marrage cert to Ethel Hannah Tuffs on the 20th May 1907, at St Paul's Middlesborough. His Father is stated as William ( again why oh why not Ebenezer !  >:( )

I next encounter him in the 1911 Census when he is living at 1 Hunters Balcony, James Street, Scarborough, along with Ethel and three of his children, his occupation Bricklayer Labourer.

I have a local Street Directory which in 1935 places them in Providence place, Scarborough.

He passes from this world on the 23rd October 1940.

It is of course the John Brown that has totally stumped me, and the John Brown I was following from Walsall ended up still being there in the 1911 census, which was a great disappointment. I had heard rumours previously within the family that he was from Lincolnshire so the Walsall link was new, a link that also showed up in the 1911 census that my Great Grandmother Ethel had written in, so with that she would not have made a mistake as she was quite particular with such things. Talk also went that he was brought up by his Aunt who ran a Pub / Inn again in Linc's.

My Great Grandmother Ethel was in the 1901 Census working as a domestic servant at The New Inn in Stokesley, so he had obviously migrated up to there by their wedding in 1907. His occupation of Journeyman / Labourer / Bricklayer have not helped.

So any ideas on how to trace this elusive person would be gratefully received, as I have gone down every avenue I know with no success. I realise the Brown Surname  ::) is a nightmare and John as a Christian  ::) name beggars belief but any advice however small would be a blessing.

Thanks for reading AL   :)

Tyrone / Any Records for a James McAleer or Ann Donelly
« on: Thursday 20 August 09 17:48 BST (UK)  »
Would any one have any records of a James McAleer who according to the 1911 census was born in Tyrone around 1842 / 1843 or his wife Ann Donelly born in Tyrone around 1835.
I know and have records for them being in Jarrow 1881, 1891, 1901.
I also beleive that he James married  Ann, in South Shields early 1865, although James name on the Marriage Certificate is James McAlear.
James was my 3x great grandfather, whose daughter Catherine my 2x grandmother who was born in Jarrow in 1866, but when it comes to her marriage it states on the certificate in the name and surname box " Catherine McAleer Discribed in the certificate as Catherine McLear" would this mean does anyone think that the surname should in fact be McAlear instead of McAleer or is this pertaining to the Catholic Chuch Records?

Any information would be gratefully received.
Many Thank Al

Occupation Interests / Architects during the 1800s
« on: Friday 03 July 09 14:55 BST (UK)  »
Bit of a quandary, having just received my 3 X grandfathers Marriage Cert, One John Charles Everett 21, a Seaman, by occupation, to one Sarah Jane Williams on 26/04/1870, it obviously names my 4 X grandfathers, namely one Edward Everett whose occupation is given as Architect, as the majority of my Ancestors are Agricultural Laborers, Laborers or Navel Personnel it was a pleasant surprise, but having difficulty locating an Edward Everett with an occupation as a Architect in any of the Census's, prior to this date or future dates, as John Charles was I believe born in London, about 1850, but married in Hartlepool, I am presuming that Edward was working in London, would anyone know of anyway to find records of Architects of this period, as I am assuming an Architect would have been quite a prestigious occupation at that time.

Hi new to this forum, been amazed at the transformation of old photos.

I have a photo, which I use as my screen saver, taken around 1950, important to me beecause it features my mother, her grandmother with her hands on her shoulders, her cousin and cousins mother beside her, then her own mother and father with her baby brother.

I never have realized it before looking at these threads but the photo is obviously flipped as the shop sign " Provisions " is back to front.

Also would it be possible to remove the girl walking past in the background (center) who is looking straight at the camera, and what programs would be advised to colour the photo if possible.

Any help or ideas would be much appreciated.
Alan
