Antrim / Prisons in County Antrim in 1832
« on: Saturday 22 February 20 16:36 GMT (UK)  »
I am researching a man named Leonard Ingram who was found guilty in April 1832 at The Belfast Quarter Sessions Court of "mangling a corpse". He was sentenced to 18 months in prison. Can anyone please advise which prison he would have served his time in?
Thanks

London and Middlesex / Lewisham Boarding School circa 1893
« on: Thursday 04 October 18 10:18 BST (UK)  »
Hi, I am researching two sisters whose father was a publican and their address was The Middleton Arms, 38 Norton Folgate, Spitalfields.
On 10 April 1893 they were both admitted to St Mary's Spital Square School and they were there until 21 Sep 1894.
In St Mary's school records their previous school was stated as Lewisham Brd School. Any information re this school would be much appreciated.

Cork / Place name of Insenstown or Incenstown?
« on: Tuesday 28 March 17 11:06 BST (UK)  »
Hi all, hoping someone with local knowledge can advise me.
I am researching a Patrick Michael Burke born circa 1859/60. His parents were John Burke and Mary Sullivan and I have found a marriage on 11 Feb 1844 in Castlelyons, Cloyne, Cork which may well be them.

Patrick emigrated to USA in 1884. He was a painter and there is a passenger record of a Patrick Burke on "Arizona" from Queenstown and arrived New York on 28 Apr 1884. He settled in Boston where his descendants still live. These descendants state he "came from Insenstown" in Ireland. I have been unable to find a place of this name.

I am wondering if this is another name for 'Queenstown' and it is not clear whether the descendants mean Patrick "came from" as meaning "lived there" or "left from there"
Any thoughts would be most welcome.
Thanks, PWN

Northamptonshire / Burial Register for St Helen's Churchyard in Sibbertoft?
« on: Wednesday 20 August 14 22:16 BST (UK)  »
I have a John Hall buried here on 21 Feb 1845 and also his wife Harriet on 16 Jun 1845 - both on National Burial Index. Someone recently had a look round the churchyard there but could not find a headstone and of course there may not be one. Anyone know if there would be a burial register anywhere which may have a record of a plot number to identify where they may be within this churchyard?  Thanks PWN

Dunbartonshire / 15 Millbrae Crescent, Clydebank - was this a hospice?
« on: Tuesday 23 April 13 17:19 BST (UK)  »
Hi, I have found several deaths (in 1950's and 1960's) at 15 Millbrae Crescent, Clydebank for folk who were not Clydebank residents but lived elsewhere in Glasgow. Was this a hospice of some sort?
Thanks PWN

Kincardineshire / 'Inmate'? Stonehaven
« on: Friday 23 September 11 13:00 BST (UK)  »
I have a chap who registers his mother's death in 1884 and his father's death in 1896 and on both death certificates the son is stated as an 'Inmate'.

The family lived in Shorehead, Stonehaven.

If he had been a 'prisoner' then surely he wouldn't have been free to register his parents deaths. Did 'Inmate' have another meaning at this time?

Thanks, PWN
