Cheshire / Lymm 1803 St Mary's Churchyard
« on: Sunday 20 November 22 12:53 GMT (UK)  »
I have 2 children buried in St Mary's Lymm on the same  day, namely 20 January 1803.  One was aged 5 years and one aged 1 year.  They were the infant children of John Atkins and his wife Sarah who died 1834 and 1808 respectively.  I am wondering if anyone knows of an outbreak of (?) cholera or something  equally as deadly to little ones?
In the same grave are also John Cowsill and his wife Bridget who died 1862 and 1867.  AS YET I can find no trace of a link between the two families but am still lookig.  Does this ring any bells with anyone.
Any help would be appreciated.
Many thanks

Wales Resources / Herbert Hughes Born 1848 Montgomery, montgomeryshire
« on: Tuesday 25 January 22 13:32 GMT (UK)  »
The above named was the son of Richard and Mary Hughes.  In 1971 census he was at St Woollos Barracks in Newtown.  It appears he was in the 23 Fusiliers.  Would that have been the Royal Welch fusiliers?  I cannot find any trace of him in the 1881, 1891, 1901 census and he reappears in London between 1909 and 1912 appearing in various Poor Law institutions and Infirmaries. He had been married to a woman, surname Lewis and they had a son Ernest Thomas Hughes born 1889, but by 1909 he was a widower.  I cannot trace his son Ernest Thomas either in the census but in 1915 Ernest married Alice Evans in Berriew, Montgomeryshire, giving his father as Herbert Hughes, labourer.
How can I find Herbert's Army record and his and family's whereabouts 1871-1909.  Also I cannot find a trace of his marriage.  I only know her surname from the GRO indexes of Ernest's birth.
I would be most grateful for any help.
Many thanks.

Cheshire / James Robert Handley b 1883 in Neston
« on: Thursday 16 December 21 14:44 GMT (UK)  »
Hello everyone
In 1891 and 1901 census of Neston, the above named is shown as the son of William and Mary Handley.  This is incorrect as his baptism is "son of Richard Handley and Catherine Matthews". Richard was the brother of William and Catherine the sister of Mary.
Despite much searching I have been unable to find a trace of him after 1901 and he does not seem to appear on the 1911 census.  The majority of the family styed on the Wirral in and around Neston and Birkenhead.
Any sight of him would be much appreciated.
Many thanks

Yorkshire (West Riding) / Kirkburton All Hallows Burial
« on: Saturday 18 November 17 17:07 GMT (UK)  »
On "find a grave" I have found the burial of William and Hannah Fitton died 1848 and 1874 respectively in All Hallows, Kirkburton.  Unfortunately I cannot read the inscription on the gravestone from the photograph given.  I have emailed the person who posted the picture but have not had any response.
Is there anyone out there who could transcribe the epitaph on the gravestone.  I think if one knows the church and looks at the photograph, it will be pretty clear where the grave is next to the church.
I would be most grateful for any assistance.
Many thanks

Hello everyone
I am trying to find out more about the drowning of one Hewitson BANKS, born 1881 in Yorkshire, England who apparently drowned June 30th, 1919 in Wilcox Lake, Whitchurch.  It went to a Coroner, so I am wondering if a local newspaper carried details of the inquest?
Any help would be gratefully received.
PS travelled to beautiful Ontario 20 years ago to visit b-in-law in Guelph.  Many happy memories.
