Hi folks I am hoping someone may be able to point me in the right direction for finding more information on William Kenney's family [he was born c1832 and settled in Leicester England in the 1850's]. My auntie told me this is the area to begin the search. Any advice would be great. Sorry don't know which church the family belonged to.  TL.

Scotland / Donbar/Dunbar
« on: Wednesday 18 November 09 18:02 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

I think I need to prefix this message by admitting its a longshot and any info would probably be useful. Anyway basically I have ancestors in Madeley, Shrops who carry the name Donbar/Dunbar. The earliest date I have is Andrew Donbar 4/1/1764 who may have had a father named Welldone [sic]. Since it is a Scottish surname and I can find no other family lines in England I wondered if anyone knows of Dunbars who moved to England in the 18th c or could advise which Scottish counties might be worth investigating further.   Many Thanks.  TL

Shropshire / The Dunbars of Madeley
« on: Wednesday 08 July 09 21:39 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

I have records of two marriages; Andrew Donbar  (born Madeley 4/1/1764) to Ann Shepherd on Aug/29/1798 at Little Wenlock and his son Isaac Dunbar (born Madeley 25/5/1804) to Mary Page on Jan/30/1832 at Madeley.

Where I need a bit of help is finding the birth records of both Ann Shepherd and Mary Page. Can anyone help please?

                                                          Thanks.

Northumberland / Searching for Redshaw roots
« on: Tuesday 23 June 09 21:33 BST (UK)  »
Hi folks,

I'm hoping someone might be able to help give some information to kickstart this search, but I've only limited facts to go on so it might be a longshot!
My partner's family come from the Ashington area, but all she knows is that her grandfather was John Robert Redshaw born c1891 and that he was married and living in Pegswood early in the 20th century. The only other fact she has is that he was brought up by his grandparents, but she does not know which village!! ::)
With this limited info I'm far from expecting miracles, but any glimmer of help would be much appreciated. :)

Leicestershire / Hide & Seek with George & Mary
« on: Sunday 07 June 09 23:06 BST (UK)  »
Hi, I appear to have reached an impasse with another family line. On this occasion its George Henry Kenney (b. Leicester c1857) and his wife Mary (b.Leicester c1859) I know they were living in Belper St. Leicester in 1881 with three children and suspect they were living in Mansfield Notts for a short time 5 years earlier. I am having trouble locating them in 1891, before they re-emerge in 1901 in Suffolk St. Leicester with considerably more children.
As well as wondering where they are in 1891, I wonder where and when they married, what Mary's maiden name was and if George was related to the numerous Whetstone Kenneys? Can anyone shed some light on this for me please .

Leicestershire / The elusive Gibbins branch of the family.
« on: Monday 01 June 09 18:12 BST (UK)  »
Hi, I'm hoping someone will be able to help solve this family conundrum for me.Sarah Gibbins was in the mill trade in Thurmaston in 1871, but I'm having problems tracing a husband for her then, plus in 1881 she emerges in Argyle St Leicester St.Margarets with her two youngest children, she is now Sarah Robinson, but still no husband. Could she have reverted to her maiden name, her daughters are still Gibbins. Her son Thomas is in Syston in 1881 as miller, grocer, & baker. This part of my puzzle is; did Sarah have two husbands, and if so, who were they?
The second part is unfortunately more vague. There is a perceived family tradition that the Gibbins ancestors moved from Hallaton at some time in the 19th century and while I have located people by this surname in Hallaton in the 1820's I cannot find any link to the Thurmaston Gibbins family.
Anyone who has had the patience to read all this and can offer any help whatsoever, I would be very grateful.
