London & Middlesex Lookup Requests / From St Georges Workhouse to Mitcham School
« on: Tuesday 12 October 21 06:49 BST (UK)  »
A family of orphans were admitted to St Georges Workhouse, Mint St on 1 july 1857 after their mother Caroline died in March of the same year.  Their father James died in 1854.  They were Sophia (b 1845) James Daniel (b 1849) and Alice Maria (b 1851)- known as Maria JARVIS.  James was discharged 3rd July to attend the Mitcham School. Sophia and Maria discharged 6th July also to attend the Mitcham School.  How do I obtain any records for the Mitcham School.  If there are records is it possible someone may be able to look please.
A James Jarvis seems to appear in the the same workhouse several times up until 1862.  How do I know for sure that this is my James Jarvis?
I would appreciate any help offered.

Hertfordshire / Two birth registrations for what appears to be same child
« on: Friday 15 November 19 09:47 GMT (UK)  »
I have two birth registrations that have confused me and would like another opinion please.

Birth Reg 1/  District Cheshunt, Edmonton    3A/188
13 Dec 1864    Charles William Pearson Cockle to John and Annie (formerly Barker) Cockle
Born at Hatton Road.              Registered 16 Jan 1865.

Birth Reg 2/  District All Souls,  Marylebone    1A/415
25 Mar 1865    Charles William Pearson Cockle to Elizabeth Cockle.
MA Rhodes present at the birth at 45 Newmans St, Marylebone.   Reg 23 Sept 1865  (6mths after birth)

Then Elizabeth Cockle married a William Charles Pearson at St James Westminster 19 Jan 1870.

1871 Census William and Elizabeth and 6 year old Charles W live on the London Rd Sussex.

Charles William Pearson never appears again with John and Annie Cockle.

John Cockle and Elizabeth Cockle are siblings.

Did Annie give birth and then Elizabeth adopt the baby?  If so how did MA Rhodes witness the birth at 45 Newmans St?  Or maybe another explanation lurks around the corner....

Hertfordshire / St Mary the Great burial - Charles Drake
« on: Friday 15 November 19 06:25 GMT (UK)  »
Charles Drake married Jane Bacon 27 Jan 1829 St Mary, Whitechapel, Middlesex.  Jane's 2nd marriage took place in 1836 to Joseph Barker.

National Burial Index for Eng and Wales transcriptions records a burial for Charles Drake 28 Dec 1832 at St Mary the Great, Sawbridgeworth. Charles was aged 27 (DOB c1805).
In the 1841 census for Sawbridgeworth Jane is recorded as Jane Barker living with Joseph Barker and Emily Drake age 10, among others.

How can I confirm the above Charles Drake's Burial is Jane's husband.
Also have not been able to locate a birth for Emily Drake so don't know if she is Jane's daughter and have no further record of her.

There is another Emily (Jane) Drake born 1830 to Charles Collins Drake so not to be confused with the above.

So please, where do I go from here to find records to confirm what I have?
Would appreciate any suggestions as I'm at a total loss.

Kent Lookup Requests / East Peckham (Laurences Square and Boulogne Cottages)
« on: Wednesday 13 September 17 03:14 BST (UK)  »
In the 1891 Census of Reg Dist: Malling  Parish: East Peckham for Thomas and Mary Baker the residence appears to be Laurences Square.  Does anybody know where Laurences Square would have been please.
In 1881 Census their address was Boulogne Cottages, after much searching I think I have found these cottages, otherwise known as Bullen cottages, but could someone confirm that they are the cottages in Bullen Lane between Bullen Farm and Crowhurst Farm.
I would appreciate any input.

Kent Lookup Requests / Marriage of John Miller and Harriet Langridge-West Malling
« on: Tuesday 04 April 17 05:11 BST (UK)  »
John Miller married Harriet (1 t) Langridge October 24th 1869 in the church of St Marys, West Malling, Kent.  I have a photo copy of marriage registration.
But I have noticed on Family Search web site for Kent Parish registers there is another marriage between a John Miller and Harriett (2 t's) Langridge dated 10th February 1867 also West Malling, Kent.
Does anyone have access to the Kent Parish registers for a lookup at this 1867 marriage please.
My Harriet/Harriett's parents were: James and Mary Ann Langridge.  Not sure on John's parents.

Is this a coincidence that there could possibly be two couples with the same names marrying in the same district?
I appreciate any help.
Thank you.

Will appreciate any advice.

Sussex Lookup Requests / Miller John Edwin Jacob-Hastings
« on: Tuesday 23 June 09 23:30 BST (UK)  »
I have came up against a brick wall with my Gr Grandfather John Edwin Jacob Miller born c 1843. On the 1871 Census for West Malling, Kent, it stated that he was age 30 and born in Hastings, Sussex. Also an  entry for Catherine Miller (Daug) age 7  born in Hastings, Sussex, but his wife Harriett  was born in Barming, Kent which leads me to believe that John and daughter Catherine went to Kent prior to 1869 where he married Harriett Langridge in Kent.

On John and Harriett's marriage Certificate it stated that John was a Bachelor.

The only entry in the IGI for a Catherine Miller born in Sussex  around 1864 and close to Hastings is born in Cuckfield,West Sussex registered 1st Quarter in 1864.

Is there anyone who could look up to see who this Catherine's parents are, and maybe a John Edwin Jacob Miller born around 1841-44 in Hastings please.

I know this is not a lot of information to go on but would be very grateful for any information.

Kind regards
Barbara

Tipperary / Fencible from Tipperary
« on: Saturday 06 June 09 06:25 BST (UK)  »
I am having trouble deciphering the Town / Parish name where my Patrick Crew/Crewe/Carew apparently lived prior to joining the 58th Reg of Foot at Ballinasloe, County Galway.
On the hand written 'Attestation for Regiments' the Parish he was born in looks like Louran/Louvan in the County of Tipperary. Also his discharge paper reads the same: Parish of (looks like) Lowran and in or near the Town of Louran.
I have searched and searched but that Parish or Town doesn't seem to exist.
Patrick Crew joined at the age of 17 in 1823 and discharged November 1845.
Then in 1849 came to New Zealand as a Fencible - still no clue with Parish or Town name on any New Zealand documents eg. Death Certificate and children's birth Certificates.
Can anybody offer any suggestions as to where I can search for any other records that will show his place of birth please.
