Offaly (Kings) / Any one connected to name "Mitchell" from Birr County Offaly
« on: Tuesday 24 April 18 06:08 BST (UK)  »
Hello people of County Offaly Ireland.

I research autograph names from a Shakespeare's Birthday Book which has been in my pocession for many years now. Once owned by Surgeon/Dr Thomas Leslie Crooke 1861-1943.

Recently I  stumbled on a site BOARDS IE but the messages were from 2010.
I couldn't gain access to the site as someone named (Sim) Simarillion was looking for these family names also in the Birthday Book among the 800-900 autogtraphs.

Adam Mitchell Crown Solicitor
J (James) Fitzroy Mitchell Engineer (Died young at Buenos Airies).

They once lived in Birr in place named "Walcott" which was then taken over by the Hoctor family.
Susan L Mitchell went to stay them in Birr at a stage in her life.

Most people signed on their birthday but left no year.

These were relatives to a great Irish woman Susan L (Langstaff ) Mitchell Poet/Writer 1866 whose autograph is also in the book.

Others appear :

Barbara Mitchell : Sept 25 and a Catherine Mitchell: Sept 26. Mary Mitchell: Feb 3 (no years).
A G Mitchell Feb 22 1858

I am struggling to find these people as very limited to sites I can access.

Thank you from Shane in NZ.

« on: Sunday 22 April 18 09:49 BST (UK)  »
Dear people of Sligo. I am Shane from Christchurch New Zealand.
For may years now I have owned a Shakespeare's Birthday Book containing some 900 autographs, Belonging once to Surgeon/ Dr Thomas Leslie Crooke 1861-1943. His paremts orignated from Birr County Offaly.
His brother George Douglas Crooke was once secretly engaged to Poet Susan L Mitchell born Dec 05 1866 and both autographed the book. George a military man died in a war.
I am unable to find a photo I can use of Susan as I piece their lives together.
Now I am led to belove that a Portrait of Susan Langstaff Mitchell is hanging in The Model/Mall in Sligo painted by J B Yeats when Susan lived with them.

I would like to know if some kind person could take a photo for me and send via e mail. I will make acknowlegement of this should I get a book published on Dr Crooke's life.

Thank you and kind regards. Shane Patrick Duffy.

Scotland / Burial of Emily Crooke
« on: Thursday 22 March 18 09:15 GMT (UK)  »
Hello everyone.
I study an Shakespere's Birthday Book with some 800-900 autographs in. Many are Irish that lived and died in Scotland others Scottish and from around the world.
One person being the Rev Milward Crooke 1828 died 1901 Newington Registration 685/5 Civil Parish Edinburgh Morningside.
His wife Emily Crooke 1838 nee Hackett I can only presume was intered with her husband.
She last lived at 41 Morningside Park Edinburgh EH10 5EZ.
Would have been some years after her husbands passing.
I was unable to find if Emily was buried with her late husband Milward Crooke.
Could someone verfiy this for me. Kind regards Shane Duffy Christchurch NZ.
