Cornwall / Bray family of St. Mabyn
« on: Wednesday 11 September 19 12:57 BST (UK)  »
Just got back into my family-treeing after a long break and have immediately hit a solid brick wall. Have William Bray, baptised in St. Mabyn 18/12/1642 and married to Elizabeth Thomas 24/10/1670. His father another William, who was possibly baptised 15/3/1618 in St. Mabyn with siblings Christopher (30/4/1615) and Anne (12/5/1622), and parents William and Anne, but thatīs as far as I can get. Nothing further in Cornwall OPC, Find My Past or Family Search (what have they done with that btw? Type in Cornwall and get every area of the UK!) Please tell me that there is someone out there who can help?

Cornwall / The Brays and Polkinghornes of Bodmin
« on: Saturday 15 September 18 12:51 BST (UK)  »
I keep coming back to this important part of my tree and hit the same brick wall every time. A direct ancestor is William Bray born 1801 in Bodmin to John and Elizabeth. If my information is correct, his brother Richard was Town Clerk of Bodmin for some years, but it is John and Elizabeth I am interested in. She was born Elizabeth Polkinghorne in around 1771 and at her marriage to John Bray 2/12/1792 in Bodmin was shown as being "of this parish". Canīt find her anywhere. I had John as perhaps being born around 1767, but am working on the theory that he may have been the John born to Richard Bray and Rebecca Blake 12/12/1762 in Bodmin. If anyone can give me a nudge in the right direction I will be extremely grateful.

Cornwall / Charles Haley of Cardinham
« on: Saturday 14 July 18 14:42 BST (UK)  »
Hi! I have managed to trace my Haley family back to Charles, born around 1770 in Cardinham, who married Ann and had Charles in 1794, William in 1797 and Martin Gilbert in 1804.Is I have Charles born 1746 in Braddock (Broadoak) who married Margaret Saunders in 1773 and who was buried in Cardinham, but am completely unable to connect the two. Cannot find a Charles born to Charles and Margaret, so he could be the son of one of the brothers - Nicholas, Thomas, Abraham or William. Can anyone help?

Cornwall / Percy Bray 1896 Liskeard
« on: Monday 11 January 16 20:06 GMT (UK)  »
I have been undone by the 1939 census! Because of that, I have discovered that there were TWO Percy Brays born in Liskeard in July 1896 - one on July 12th and one on July 15th - and I have been building my family tree on the wrong one. The father of the one I need to trace was called Samuel, not William, as I have now and the information I can find on the censuses is ambiguous at best. Can only find the wrong Percy in BMD records, unless he was registered in 4q 1897 and not 4q 1896. Is there anyone out there who could possibly help?

Derbyshire / William Plant born ca. 1750 Ashbourne
« on: Wednesday 23 September 15 12:22 BST (UK)  »
Is anyone researching the Plant family of Osmaston/Ashbourne, Derbyshire? I have got as far as William, who married a Sarah Yates, but have been unable to trace either of them any further back...

Cornwall / Tippet Family of Wendron
« on: Tuesday 15 September 15 13:18 BST (UK)  »
Not been on here for ages so bear with me. I know the subject of Gaverigan Tippet (ca. 1624-1666) has been discussed on here by several members, but has anyone attempted, like me, to link him to the Gaverigan family? Mary Gaverigan, 5th daughter of John Gaverigan of Gaverigan, married Richard Typpett-Nankivell in the 1500s and Iīm convinced that Gaverigan Tippet is a descendant of this couple. I have had no success whatsoever in finding any mention of him prior to his time in Wendron, but both his and his wife Janeīs wills were proven in Bodmin, which would suggest that they moved back into that area before death. There were a lot of Typpetts, with various spellings, in and around St. Columb Major in the 1500s and 1600s. Can anyone help with this theory?

Derbyshire / gaunts and lockers in derbyshire
« on: Sunday 02 September 12 15:21 BST (UK)  »
Thomas Gaunt (or versions of) married Mary Locker in St. Andrews Church in Cubley 22/6/1773. They had at least 4 children - Ann baptised 9/4/1775, William 4/3/1778, Catherine 18/9/1785 and my 3xg.grandmother Sarah 12/9/1790 - all in Cubley. Despite IGI and FindMyPast and everything else I can think of, I have been totally unable to trace either Thomas or Mary. Please, please is there anyone out there who can help???

Cornwall / John Gilbert and Elizabeth Wadge
« on: Tuesday 10 July 12 13:55 BST (UK)  »
There is a possible burial for John in St. Clether 3/12/1797. As I can find no further children for him and Elizabeth after John in 1796, this is a distinct possibility. Elizabeth was baptised in Altarnun on 1/4/1770 (there was a considerable age gap between her and John). I use Cornwall OPC a lot, but find that there is a lot of information not yet included - and unfortunately Stoke Climsland is one of the areas not covered. Got all my Gilbert and Pascho births from Family Search but need to find Jinny and confirm Johnīs parentage before I go heading off in possibly the wrong direction...

Cornwall / John Gilbert and Elizabeth Wadge
« on: Monday 09 July 12 13:59 BST (UK)  »
Iīm hoping someone out there can stop me tearing my hair out, as I donīt have a lot of it left. My 4xg.grandfather John Gilbert married Elizabeth Wadge in Altarnun 26/7/1787. I was originally given his date and place of birth as 1755 in Altarnun but have never been able to find this baptism, or any trace of him in or around Altarnun before his marriage. I was extremely lucky a couple of weeks ago, to be given a completely different possible baptism, 3/10/1751 in Stoke Climsland - a very real possibility combined with other information I have on the Wadge family. If this be he, then his parents were John Gilbert (hardly surprising) and Jinny Pascho, both of and married in, Stoke Climsland. Diligent research and begging letters have been totally unable to turn up either of them, with any spelling of the name Pascho, in that area - she could have been Jone, Joan or Jane and the spellings of Pascho are numerous - within the age bracket though two possibilites exist of baptisms nearby around 1714/1716, which would have made John snr. and Jinny in their 30s when they married and either or both could have been married before. I have an extensive list of Gilbert and Pascho births in a large area in east Cornwall, but itīs a case of not being sure that the John born in Stoke Climsland IS my 4.g.granddad. If there is anyone who can help in any way at all I will be eternally grateful...
