Lancashire / George Frost
« on: Friday 06 May 22 23:51 BST (UK)  »
Hoping someone can help shed some light on what happened to my uncle George Frost. He was born in Liverpool 20/4/1904, was taken off the street and put into an industrial school  as a child for vagrancy as where his two brothers, I believe the orphanage/industrial school was in Beacon Lane . He remained there until he was sixteen and that was the last sighting the family ever had of him. I have now found a record of him in the UK Calendar of prisioners 1868/1929 where he was charged by the Liverpool police for stealing a coconut, 21st Sept 1920, was tried at Salford bough court the offence was no visable means of support, he was sentenced to three years in a borstal institution. I have contacted Salford archives but unfortunately the court records for that year 1920 are missing. I was told it is very likely the borstal in question would probably be somewhere in the South of England. Without this information it is impossible to find out what happened to this poor man. If anyone can suggest where I go from here I would be most grateful. I have done all the usual searches but it's a needle in a haystack.

Hi hoping someone would be able to advise me on how i would go about tracking down the records of a person who was sent to borstal in 1920, court Salford borough. My uncle was born in Liverpool 1904 and was taken off the streets as a child and put into an industrial school along with his two brothers, he remained there until he was sixteen, on discharge he totally disappeared from the family never to be heard of again. I have now found a record of him in Salford being charged with no visible means of support and stealing a coconut, for that he was given three years detention. I would love to find out what happened to this poor man, any help is much appreciated.

Derry (Londonderry) / Mary Campbell
« on: Wednesday 10 July 19 21:48 BST (UK)  »
Looking again for some advice, after searching for years for a maiden name for my Great Grandmother I think I have possibly found her, Mary Campbell nee Hinfey. I know the family lived in Waterloo St in 1885' and have now found a death on the Irish Genealogy  site for a Mary Campbell of Waterloo St in 1891.Apparently there was an inquest held and my question is how would I find that information. My hope is that it can verify a maiden name, also her husbands name, and hopefully any other nugget of information. Any advice would be most welcome.

Free Photo Restoration & Date Old Photographs / Campbell's of Londonderry
« on: Wednesday 21 November 18 20:54 GMT (UK)  »
Hi all, hoping that this picture could be enhanced and dated, to possibly show more detail. Far right is my great grandmother, Mary CAMPBELL, nee McAleer, born 1845, far left the young lady is Minnie Campbell born 1868, daughter to Mary CAMPBELL. The older lady is possibly the mother in law of Mary CAMPBELL, just to confuse matters also Mary CAMPBELL. The family folklore is that this was a photograph of Minnie's  graduation, she was a school teacher, she seems to be holding some kind of scroll, also wearing what looks like a gown and hat. The women are also wearing some kind of corsage, maybe shamrock. I don't know the rest of the people, although there is a family likeness to some of them.
I am hoping that with more clarity I can pick up more detail as some of them seem to have their hand on the shoulder of the person in front, such as the older lady and the tall gentleman at the back. Any input would be gratefully received.

Armed Forces / CAMPBELL Brothers
« on: Thursday 22 December 16 20:15 GMT (UK)  »
I am trying to find the service records of my grandfather's brother's, Charles and Frederick Campbell, Charles born circa 1870,Frederick born 1881, both Londonderry.
On my grandfather's army record he has his three brother's listed as being in the Royal Artillery, 7Th company, lookes like 6Th dv. My grandfather was James CAMPBELL, his regiment no was 82179, joined the Royal Artillery 18/12/1890
With your help I have tracked down his eldest brother, a William CAMPBELL, alias Thomas O'Neill, as on a previous post, I wasn't too sure weather to join the two posts or not. I would greatly appreciate any help as I have searched in vain for these two other brother's on Ancestry, but can't find them anywhere. I did find Frederick on the 1901 census for Ireland, aged 20, so maybe he was on leave. Any information would be gratefully received.

Armed Forces / Thomas O'Neil
« on: Thursday 24 November 16 23:16 GMT (UK)  »
Could someone please have a look at the service record of Thomas O'Neil, his record is on Ancestry which I have found, and it looks to me that he had a previous  service record prior to 19/2/ 1916 when he joined the Royal Engineer's. I am trying to get a next of kin for him and possibly any personal information, I can't make out the next of kin, but do know that he was discharged c/o a Mrs Campbell of 3 Bruce St Clydebank .As this wasn't his family I am trying to piece together his early life. I can't  find an earlier number for him, if indeed he would have one.I would very much appreciate any help.
Details for Thomas O'Neil as follows, born 1870, joined Royal engineers  19/2/1916, number 115928
