South Africa / Philip Frederick Howard Simon
« on: Wednesday 27 May 15 15:29 BST (UK)  »
My friends mum, Gloria Wall, found a silver bracelet inscribed with 'Lt P.F.H. Simon'- 'C of E'- 'R.F.A' in her garden on Shoreham beach 1988. I have researched and found his name to be Philip Frederick Howard Simon, (6-5-1898 to 23-11-1953)and discovered his family of the time, and that he married Phylis Mabel Chevalier in Cape Town 1924. What we're hoping for, is to find any living descendant of Philip and Phylis Simon, in the hope of giving them the bracelet.

I hope someone here may be able to help us make Gloria's wish come true to reunite the bracelet.

The Common Room / Irish birth certificate
« on: Thursday 15 January 15 09:14 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,
I'm trying to trace the birth certificate for Edward Fitzgerald Trevor, born Dublin 1863, (died 1939), according to all future census reports in the UK. It is believed his father was John Salusbury Trevor CSI (1830-1896), but that Edward may have been born illegitimate, possibly as Edward Fitzgerald?

If anyone can help I'd love to hear.

Regards,
Andy R

Waterford / Waterford, Comedian, and Theatre Manager 1870-74
« on: Wednesday 29 January 14 07:22 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,
my Great Great Grand Father, Joseph Ramus, lived in Carrick on Suir, and Waterford for at least 4 years between 1870 to '74. On his son, Alfred's birth certificate in 1870 at Waterford, Joseph's occupation is listed as 'comedian', by his next son, my G G Grand father, Henry, 1872, he is still a comedian, but by the birth of his daughter, Martha Louisa, 1874, he is now listed as, 'Theatre Manager'. They lived at, 'Manor street', 'New Lane', and, 'Barrack street', on these certificates. During their time in Ireland, they went by the surname of, 'Raymond'. If anyone could shed any light on this time, or even better, have any theatre records, or even just the theatre name, I would love to hear.

Thanks,
Andy Ramus

Sussex / William Walker sampson
« on: Friday 22 March 13 12:50 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

I'm researching William Walker Sampson, he was a friend of Sir Harry Preston, and quite probably knew Oliver Dalton too. William died at 122 Kings road, Brighton in 1929, of a heart attack. He was an art dealer based in 13 Air street, Piccadilly, London. I have a write up on my website with most of the info I have so far, here's the link:- http://wolf-e-boy.com/My-Ramus-Family-tree

If anyone knows anything of these characters, I'd love to hear it, especially if they know anything regarding my Great Grand Father, Henry Ramus, he was Sampsons business partner before he died from an abscess infection in 1911, their business was called, 'The British Galleries', they were Fine Art Dealers. Sampson enrolled Henrys sons at Brighton college after their dads death. I feel certain their is a connection between all of them, which I hope I am slowly unravelling. Brighton certainly had an intriguing history around the turn of the nineteenth to twentieth century.

A photo is the Holy Grail I'd give my eye teeth for, preferably of Sampson and Henry, even better if with Henrys wife, May. I look forward to any potential evidence of their lives that might be out there,

Waterford / RAMUS, Waterford
« on: Tuesday 16 June 09 12:39 BST (UK)  »
Hi there,
I'm new to this site so please forgive the clumsy way I've found you.
I've been tracing the 'Ramus' family tree for a year and a half, and have a stumbling block in Waterford around the 1870's. Alfred (1870), Henry (1872), and Louisa Martha (1875), all children of Joseph Ramus (London 1845), are listed in their later English census's as having been born in Waterford, Ireland. Joseph was a fine art dealer, they relocated to Scotland at some point, and re emerge in the Scottish census of 1891, with a new addition of Bertie, born in Glasgow (1878). I would be so grateful if you could advise me of my options, or indeed chances (if any) of tracing their birth certificates. The family has a Jewish heritage too, if that's any help, I look forward eagerly to any assistance you may be able to offer,

yours,
Andy Ramus
