Leicestershire / Frost Henshaw Connection
« on: Tuesday 05 December 23 22:10 GMT (UK)  »
My relative, Francis Frost, was born in 1817 in Bagworth. In 1881 he was listed as a relative living at the home of Joseph and Mary Henshaw, both born in Bagworth. I am trying to find the connection between the two. So far I have traced the Henshaw siblings ( all other census list them as siblings) as grandchildren of Richard Henshaw and Mary Frost who were married in Thornton in 1805. It is here that I’m stuck as I can find no Mary Frost born in 1780s . I am wondering if this Mary Frost was a widow ? Ideas? Leads?

Worcestershire / Mystery from Bishampton
« on: Thursday 07 September 23 19:41 BST (UK)  »
My ancestor was Isabel Kinman who married Edward Attwood in Aston Cantlow, Warwickshire in 1690. In title documents to the Manor of Great Alne, she is listed as kinswoman of the  Isabel Wagstaffe, widow, of Bishampton and only daughter of Richard Kinman of same. I can find a record of an Isabel Kindman baptized in Bishampton in January of 1671 to Richard and Isabel. I can find no record of marriage between Richard and Isabel. Could this be why she is referred to as kinswoman not mother or is there another practice I’m not aware of?

Warwickshire / Webb family of Cherington
« on: Wednesday 06 September 23 18:30 BST (UK)  »
I am looking for the parents of Mary Webb who married Richard Hemmings in Cherington in 1676. I have found various Webb christenings in the area including in nearby Stratford on Avon and two wills of two Thomas Webbs (1580 and 1616) but no leads to my Mary. Any lead is appreciated.

Warwickshire / Sole of Polesworth
« on: Saturday 26 August 23 17:45 BST (UK)  »
George Sole of Polesworth born 1723 is my ancestor. He married Elizabeth Wood in 1749 in Grendon, Warwickshire. Their daughter Sarah married John Cooper in 1792. I have had no luck tracing George’s parents. I have found 3 lawsuits  with Thomas Sole yeoman of Wharton Polesworth in the British National Archives for the period of 1719-1722 but found no direct connection to George. Any leads are appreciated.

Leicestershire Lookup Requests / Marriott Mystery Frisby on the Wreake
« on: Friday 02 June 23 18:20 BST (UK)  »
I am faced with a conundrum. According to IGI Isaac and Jane Marriott baptized Thomas Beeson Marriott in 1855 in the Anglican faith. In 1856 they baptized a second Thomas in the Anglican Church. My gtgrandfather was Thomas Beeson Marriott according to our family but here’s the problem. In no census are both Thomases recorded. My Thomas records his birth as 1854 on his death record. There is a Thomas recorded on the prison system including the national habitual prisoners list in 1891 when he was released from Parkhurst. His record shows  was born in 1856 in Frisby on the Wreake as does his census record in 1891. This Thomas was a bad,bad man with 3 convictions for nasty crimes. I am wondering a couple of things- a. Would Isaac and Jane baptize Thomas  twice or did they have 2 Thomases? b. Did Thomas Beeson die and the second Thomas used his name and birthdate in later censuses after he was released? Any hints as to how to proceed? I see no death records for a Thomas in Frisby on the Wreake during the short time between 1854 and 1856.

Family History Beginners Board / William Moore of Scalford
« on: Saturday 12 November 22 20:06 GMT (UK)  »
One of my ancestors, William Moore of Scalford, has become a mystery. I have no birthdate but he married in 1759 in Stathern to Sarah Darwentwater. There are two possible sets of parents as there was a William born in Scalford in 1727 to George and Ann Moore and one born in 1734 to Thomas and AnnE. Both  seem possible candidates. I have found a Will dated 1750 which names an  eldest son William as executor to Thomas Moore. In my William’s family he had only one son, also named William. Logically it seems strange there was no George if he belongs to George and Ann.  thoughts on how I might determine which William is my ancestor?

Leicestershire / Caunt family of Sileby 1582
« on: Monday 26 September 22 21:18 BST (UK)  »
I am connected to the Caunt family through Alice Caunt who married Thomas Berrington of Hathern in Sileby in 1606. I have found Alice is the daughter of Richard Caunt and Elizabeth Greensmith (m Oct 28 1574 in Sileby) and had 7 siblings: Richard 1584, Isabel 1591, John 1588, William 1593, Elizabeth 1597; Ellen, 1584, and Edward 1578. Richard’s father was also Richard (b 1530 in Hoveringham Nottinghamshire) married to Agnes Clexon Mar 11 1575 in Stathern I am trying to trace Alice’s siblings and have found a Will of William Caunt of Sileby referencing his brother John and William’s wife ( looks like Dorothy’s) as well as a court case over the land of John Caunt in 1694. If I am correct, this John was a son of one of Alice’s brothers, but I can’t find a John born in Sileby to any of them. Hoping someone has some leads .

Oxfordshire Lookup Requests / Jane Faichen of Wolvercote
« on: Monday 22 October 18 17:36 BST (UK)  »
Looking for information on Jane Faichen who was born in 1808 in Wolvercote. Her marriage registration in Bishops Itchington Warwickshire lists her father as Thomas Faichen, a paper maker and a Jane as a spinster and resident of Bishops Itchington. I know the Faichen family once ran a paper making company in Wolvercote in the 1770s. Later census entries for Jane as wife of William Atwood are consistent in listing her birth year and place. Ideas anyone?

Leicestershire Lookup Requests / Hulls of Harby
« on: Wednesday 06 October 10 03:59 BST (UK)  »
Looking for the parents of Elizabeth Hull, born in Harby in 1798.  On my Philmore Marriage index, I have found only one Hull, William, who married Rosamond Welch of Harby in 1798.  I am hoping to sort out if they were Elizabeth's parents.  A William Hull is also listed in the 1881 census as being born in about 1804 in Harby.  I am hoping to link the group together.  Any ideas?  Elizabeth was married in 1824, so she wouldn't appear on the census for 1841 with her parents, but maybe William would.  Is there someone out there who has the 1841 Harby census?
Many thanks,
Karen
