Durham / Cycling Club
« on: Monday 05 February 18 15:12 GMT (UK)  »
My friend has a small bugle with the inscription West Stanley Cycling Club.  There is no date inscribed.  It was made by Woods and Co who were musical instrument manufactures situated in Westgate Road Newcastle upon Tyne  I am unable to find any reference to the cycling club as to when it was in existence.  I have quite a lot of information about Woods and Co but would like to know if anyone has ever heard of the cycling club in West Stanley.

Eunice Wheatley b. 1788 in Lanchester, Durham married first husband William Simpson in All Saints Lanchester in 1806. William died and she remarried John Richardson from Tanfield in 1843 at St Nicholas Church Newcastle upon Tyne. They both returned to Greencroft area and Eunice died 1st March 1868 at High Kyo. I am unable to find where she is buried. Thanks

Who was Alderman Wood? He had a school named after him which was Stanley Grammer School and is currently Tanfield School. What connection did Alderman Wood have to this school? Any information would be great thanks :)

I wonder if anyone can tell me where a chemist/herbalist had his shop in Newcastle. I was taken there as a child but can not remember which street it was situated. It would be great if someone out there could tell me his correct name.

Durham / A dead end to Sword
« on: Tuesday 21 July 09 17:00 BST (UK)  »
I am unable to find the deaths of my great aunt and uncle James Sword born 1864 Newcastle upon Tyne and his wife Hannah Ann Pig born 1854 Ridley Mill, Stocksfield.  They married in 1901 in Gateshead and I have found them in 1911 census in Chester le Street.  James was a photographer and had shops in Gateshead, West Stanley and Chester le Street.  They seem to just vanish as I can find no deaths for either.
