Monmouthshire Lookup Requests / Griffiths, Mitcheltroy
« on: Tuesday 15 May 07 14:41 BST (UK)  »
Can anyone help me? My family was in Mitcheltroy for most of 18th Century, before moving to Forest of Dean, Gloucestershire.

What I have is John Griffiths (died 1749) married to Hannah (died 1780). I don't know how long it's been there, but IGI Pedigree Page has entry for John born c.1715 and Hannah born c.1719. Whoever made the entry knows something. Not the baptism entries, otherwise they would have put the dates.

They had 3 children, Michael bapt. 18Oct1741, Thomas bapt. 17Jun1743 and Tasce bapt. 30Aug1747. Michael may have died in Monmouth in 1800. I am probably descended from Thomas. Tasce died 1757.

If correct, Thomas married Jane (She died 1802). They had 2 children, James born 1792 and Tasce born 1795. (I am aware of the marriage of a Thomas Griffiths and Jane Jenkins at Wonastow in 1782. Their children are well documented and they don't seem to stack up with my subsequent family history). I am probably descended from James 1792.

Tasce is an unusual name by 18th Century and I have been led to believe to have Quaker connections.

James 1792 -1857 married Susannah Carpenter c.1788-1859 at Newland in 1825.

I have been stuck here for more than ten years. I will be eternally grateful to anyone who can break the deadlock for me.

This Site is advertised as a Free Site on RootsChat. It is'nt, once in they want money. I tested it with my grandfather and his brothers and sisters, all born in second half of 19th Century. It recognized none of them.

Suffolk Completed Lookup Requests / Sarah Griffiths 1901 Census Beccles
« on: Saturday 12 February 05 17:04 GMT (UK)  »
I would be grateful if anyone has 1901 Census for Beccles, E. Suffolk.

My GGrandmother, Sarah Jane Griffiths (62)(1840 - 1918) was there instead of at home at Bradley Hill, E. Dean, Gloucs. She was born Gloucs. Newnham.

She should show as visitor. What interests me is who she was staying with, relations?

TIA

The Common Room / Payment For Parish Register Entries?
« on: Tuesday 25 January 05 16:54 GMT (UK)  »
Did one have to pay for entries in Parish registers in 18th Century and before?

I ask because my GGGrandfather died in 1749. Only reason I know is because his burial expenses were paid out of the Overseers Disbursements. He's not in the Burial Register for the Parish. His daughter died in 1757 or apparently so. No entry in Burial Register, just an entry in Overseers Disbursements 'for burying 'phile' Griffits and expenses'.

The Registers of the Parish concerned were not kept that well in 18th Century from time to time.

Any observations would be gratefully received.

Monmouthshire / Griffiths - Mitchel Troy - 18th Century
« on: Monday 20 December 04 18:50 GMT (UK)  »
My family lived in Mitchel Troy in 18th Century.

John died 1749. Not in Burial Register. His wife Hannah ? died 1780, buried 17 May 1780.

Their children, Michael bapt. 18 Oct. 1741, possibly died Monmouth 1800, Thomas bapt. 4 June 1743, and Tacy bapt. 30 Aug. 1747, died 1757, not in burial Register.

Thomas Bn. 1743 married Jane ?, latter died 1802, buried 19 Sept. 1802.
Their children were James Bapt. 17 Jun. 1792, died Soudley Glos. 1857 and Tacy Bapt. 17 May 1795.

James 1792 - 1857 married Susanna Carpenter 1788 - 1859 at Newland, Glos. in 1825.

I am GGGrandson of James 1792 - 1857.

I am stuck with John and Hannah. Going out in ever increasing circles, marriage possibilities for John and Hannah are Hereford 8 Apr. 1741 and for Thomas and Jane 21 May 1787 Wormbridge, Hereford 21 May 1787.

For the latter couple, marriage James Griffiths and Jane Jenkins at Wonastow, Mon. 1782, later living Redbrook, Glos. does not seem to be correct.

Tacy, any Quaker connections?

Any clues would be most welcome,

Seasons Greetings,

Roger
