Anglesey Lookup Requests / OWEN family
« on: Wednesday 08 July 09 20:59 BST (UK)  »
Would it be possible, please, for someone to look for Richard and Catherine Owen in the Llangwyllog area in the 1871 and 1891 censuses - or, indeed, any other records?  I have them on the 81 census with children John (b1870 in Ceidio), Mary (1875 in Llanfihangel) and Richard (1880 in Llangwyllog) with an address of 'Bodwin,' and the same couple (no children) on the 1911 listed at Bryn Goronwy, Brynteg P.O. (is this Post Office?), in the parish of Llanfair Mathafarn Eithaf.  He is shown as aged 72, an employer/farmer, who has had 5 children and that he was born in Llangwyllog. I am really interested in the John Owen, b 1870, and have been chasing him for years.  Am now working on a hunch that the family used the naming patterns that were common at the time. In 1901 I have John, with his wife and children, in south Wales. On that census, he gives his birth place as Llanerchymedd, as he does on the 1911 census also.  Would he have put that if he had been born in Ceidio? Any info would be very gratefully received.

Merionethshire / "Barraks" Ffestiniog
« on: Friday 24 April 09 19:01 BST (UK)  »
I think I have identified my Jones family in the 1881 census at an address which looks to be "Barraks" in Festiniog.  Does anyone know where/what this place was, please?  Was it some sort of temporary accommodation - it looks as though quite a number of the residents were slate quarry workers, although there are other occupations listed.  The only other information I have is that it came under RG11 5550.

Monmouthshire / Rees family of Risca (Pontymister)/Rhiwderin

Would like to find descendants of Clyde Rees, born March, 1906 in Pontymister.  He married Beatrice Waters in 1935.  Clyde's parents were John and Sarah (nee Gunter) and I believe I have a family connection.  Clyde may have worked in the Tonypandy area at one stage.

Anglesey / Wrong Owen family
« on: Monday 20 April 09 15:16 BST (UK)  »
Think I may have been searching for years with incorrect information!  Have been trying to find an Owen family with son, John, born 1870, and I now think the parents were Richard and Margaret (farmers.)  (Had previously been searching for family where both son and father were named John.)  It seems that about 8 boys were born on Anglesey in 1870 named John.  I keep getting differing census results from various pay-to-view sites, which means I don't know which certificates to get - and I can't afford them all!  Anyone any bright ideas, please?  John married a Mary Jones from Ffestiniog but, again, I can't pinpoint the correct marriage as I think a couple of fibs were told about age.  They moved to south Wales, probably for work, and were certainly there by 1904, where the last of their children (my grandmother) was born.  Other children were born in Ffestiniog (one or two f's? No sure, sorry.)

Anglesey / Owen - Needle in a haystack?
« on: Tuesday 10 August 04 18:55 BST (UK)  »
Does anyone have any bright ideas, please, as to how I can pin down my Owen family on Anglesey?  Every other person seems to have this surname!  The only definite information I have is
John David Owen, born 1870, who married Mary Elizabeth Jones, who was born 1874, probably in Ffestiniog.  John's father was also John and his mother was Margaret.  They owned a farm.

I was chasing the wrong Owen family (I think!) for about three years, having purchased the LDS 1881 census CD set and making some incorrect (I think!) assumptions, based on family names.

I think that John junior may have gone to sea at some stage.  He and Mary moved to south Wales (Tonypandy/Penygraig) in about 1903, probably for work. They had four children.  Three were born in Ffestiniog, and the last one in Penygraig.  I have no knowledge of John junior's siblings, other than that he had a sister called Catherine.  I think he may have worked in slate while living in Ffestiniog (very likely, as many men did!) but he worked in the pits when in the Rhondda.

Any bright ideas, please?

Glamorganshire / Clyde Rees of Bridgend
« on: Tuesday 10 February 04 16:35 GMT (UK)  »
Does anyone have knowledge of a Clyde Cyril Rees, born Bridgend about 1900, please?

Also researching Reynolds family of Penygraig, round about the same time and a little earlier.
