Essex / STUCK, Matthew 1762
« on: Sunday 28 February 16 07:11 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

It seems a lot of our family were from Essex, we are looking for Matthew Stuck's parents apparently he was from Flanders, Belgium born 1762, but we can find absolutely no records, we hav also been told that his brother was Thomas Stuck a "barrister of repute" and that their sister was a Marchioness, which we have not be able to prove . His daughters were Hannah and our grandmother Lucy Stuck she married into the Leaper family.

If again we can get any help we would be grateful.

Thank you

Michelle

Hi,

Hoping somebody can please help as I am finding it really difficult to find any information on the above family names, even in SEAX the essex archives.

If anybody can help could I please just have the name of Stephen Leaper's father and mother he may have been born around 1760 in essex and also if anyone has the details for his wife Susannah
or Susan Anthony/Antony we would be so grateful.

We have hit a real wall.
Many thanks

Midlothian / Father??? of Margaret Millar, Midlothian
« on: Tuesday 01 June 10 13:34 BST (UK)  »
Hi, trying to reopen this one by trying to find my great grandmother's father

I would be so grateful!!! Looking for the father to Margaret Millar, whose mother was Helen Millar she was born around 1827/1831 in the shire of Edinburgh.

Thanks to information from other RootsChat members what we do know is that Helen and Margaret were living at 2 College Wynd, Old Greyfriars, Edinburgh in the year 1841,  one Helen Millar aged 45 and a Margret Millar aged 9, both born Midlothian.   Although there were Millar servants in the 1851 census they were not together. In the 1841 census Helen is described as a widow, we have no idea who Margaret's father was and think maybe if we have this we could get further with this one. so any help would be gratefully accepted

Margaret was described as a servant, it is known that she had some education as her immigration form states that she could read in 1854 Margaret and her mother Helen emigrated to Tasmania on the Duchess of Northumberland.

In the papers they are described as
Miller, Helen 58, widow, Church of Scotland, Edinburgh, servant
Miller, Margaret 23,Church of Scotland, Edinburgh, servant

They travelled out as bounty immigrants and were sponsered by Mr George Cooper

The other name she used was Margaret Dick Miller. all other documents bearing her name spell it as Millar.
Many thanks

Australia / Tom /Thomas Edward LAWRENCE-Tasmania
« on: Monday 03 August 09 11:58 BST (UK)  »
Hi

Our family is trying to trace the family of Tom Lawrence, we know he was brought up in Tasmania, according to family legend. He was brought up or adopted by a doctor and lived in Longford. He was Roman Catholic but when a priest got a girl pregnant he renounced the religion and left home with his brother, well that's how the story goes. He was about 14 and his brother was 3 years older, he walked from Melbourne to Sydney working in shearing sheds, and onto New Zealand. we think he was born around 1856, but don't know where. Any help would be gratefully appreciated.

Many Thanks

Michelle
