Devon Lookup Requests / Amelia E/Emily Elisabeth WILLIAMS
« on: Thursday 24 February 11 20:27 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,
I wondered if someone could do a look up for me please . I have the Plymouth Baptism index vol 1 on CD and have found a baptism I am rather intrigued by. I have been trying to find a Baptism for a Amelia  E Williams born approx 1836 in Plymouth. I have had no luck finding a record but found a Baptism record for a Emily Elisabeth Williams. I know it's a long shot but on the 1841 census Amelia was recorded as Emily so I am now looking at records for Emily's too.

I have a Emily Elisabeth Williams baptised at Charles Church Plymouth 05/8/1840(pge 11) but I do not have the parents name to prove or disprove if this is the record I am looking for.
Amelia's parents names were Joseph and Susan they are recorded on the 1941 census as Williams but did not get married until to 1843 after the birth of several children!
Can anybody help?

Devon / Charles Church graveyard Plymouth
« on: Saturday 13 November 10 10:11 GMT (UK)  »
I know that after WW2 bodies were exhumed from the grave yard at Charles church to make way for a roundabout. Were any records of the graves and headstones recorded or photographed  before the removal of the bodies? Also where were the bodies moved too?

Thanks for any help.

Devon / Exeter St Flats
« on: Saturday 13 November 10 10:03 GMT (UK)  »
Hi, I am not sure if anyone can help me. I visited Plymouth a while ago and noticed some flats on Exeter St called 'Exeter Street Flats'. Could anyone tell me if these flats were known as the 'Salem Street Flats' at a earlier point in their history?
I know they are roughly in the area that Salem St once stood

Many Thanks for any help.

Ireland / Mcilroy/Mcelroy
« on: Tuesday 20 July 10 13:26 BST (UK)  »
Hi, I am trying to find any information I can on a James Mcilroy. He was born in Ireland and served in the 88th regiment foot guards. He married Mary Ann Cornish in East Stonehouse Plymouth Devon UK in 1813.
I believe he could have been born in Monaghan or Fermanagh between 1785- 1790.
Any information or help would be most appreciated.

London and Middlesex / Mcelroy born Chelsea, London
« on: Wednesday 14 July 10 17:33 BST (UK)  »
Hi I don't know where to start looking for this one, so any help will be appreciated.

I am trying to find my 3x Great Grandmothers baptism or birth record. The only information I have is that she was born in Chelsea London. Her name was Ann Cornish Mcelroy/Mcilroy and lived most of her adult life in Plymouth Devon ( according to  the 1841, 1851 and 1861 censuses) . She was aged 25 on the 1841 census (Plymouth).  I believe she was born between 1814 and 1816. I have not been able to locate a baptism record in the Plymouth district so have moved my search further afield.

Any help will be much appreciated

Devon / Hamleys Court, Plymouth, Devon
« on: Wednesday 07 April 10 13:40 BST (UK)  »
I was wondering if anyone can tell me where Hamleys Court was in Plymouth Devon. I believe it was near Salem Street ( formerly Water Lane) very near to the Barbican area. Was Hamleys Court an actual address or a name of a building? I have looked on a couple of old maps without any luck.

I was also wondering if anyone knew when the houses in Salem Street were demolished? I am interested to find any old photographs of Salem Street or Moon Street if any exist.

Thanks in advance to anybody who can help with my inquires.

Devon / Martin ROE/ ROWE - Plymouth
« on: Friday 14 August 09 15:44 BST (UK)  »
I have hit a brick wall for some time now. I am trying to find a birth date and place of birth for a Martin Roe/Rowe/ Delarue.

He was married at St Andrew's Church Plymouth in 1810 to a Suzanna Lloyd the marriage record says he was a widower and was a french pilot serving on the HMS Shannon. I have received records of his naval pension  from the national archives in the hope of finding out his date of birth and where he was born. It appears he died in Plymouth in September 1832  and was aged 80 but as yet I am no nearer to finding out where he was born and when.

Has anybody got any suggestions to where I maybe able to find this information, are there any archives papers I could look at that my help? Two sources I have found, one being  a oral history account and another a American census return for one of his children has lead me to believe he was indeed born in France. Would there we any information on this in any British records?

I also wonder why a french man would be serving on a British ship during the Napoleonic wars ???

Any help or thoughts would be deeply appreciated, I really do not know where to go next.

Thanks

Devon Lookup Requests / WILLIAMS - Plymouth
« on: Friday 14 August 09 13:19 BST (UK)  »
I have been trying to locate a baptism record for a Amelia Williams (possibly Rowe) who was born 25th December 1836 or 1837 Plymouth her parents were Joseph and Susan (or Suzanne). There is also a possibility she had a middle intial of E or F. Joseph and Susan married at Stoke Damerall church in May 1843 after having 4 children( Amelia, Martha, Rebecca and Joseph).
I have checked the DFHS discs I have not found any record on the disc's 'The Deanery Of The Three Towns' or  'The Plymouth Baptism index'. I find this quite strange as Amelia and her brother's and sisters were all born in Plymouth and lived in the same area  for all of their childhood years.
I am also trying to locate a Baptism record for her brother (my GG Grandfather) Joseph Martin Williams who was born in Plymouth  July 1843, so far I have had no luck.
I was wondering if anybody had any records for The Salem Street Methodist Chapel as it's a possibility they were baptized there as the family lived on Salem Street for 60 years.

Any help  will be really appreciated. Ideally I would love to check the records myself but it's very difficult for me to get to Plymouth as I live so far away.

Thankyou

Devon / WILLIAMS Plymouth Devon
« on: Thursday 13 August 09 16:42 BST (UK)  »
I have been trying to locate a baptism record for a Amelia Williams who was born between 1835 and 1837 Plymouth Devon. Her father was Joseph Williams a sawyer and her mother Susanne or Susan (maiden name Rowe or Delarue). I have checked the Devon Family History Society CD 'The Deanery Of The Three Towns with no luck. I have the birth certificates of a brother and a sister but have been unable to find any baptisms for any of the children. The 1851 census for Plymouth shows the Williams were living in Salem Street Plymouth ( very near to the Barbican). Further research shows that members of the familly lived  in that street between 1838 and 1902. I have really hit a brick wall and do not know where to look next of course my search is being made more difficult by living so far away from Plymouth.

Any help would be really appreciated

Thankyou
