Berwickshire / Puzzled Purvis.
« on: Wednesday 25 June 14 18:35 BST (UK)  »
Hi all, I am hoping I am on the right track with the family name, but I am struggling to find any reference of a marriage of Alexander Purves to Elizabeth Drydon. Cant find it on the Scottish site, wondering which way to turn now?   I believe the Alexander I am following was Born to Alexander Purves and Elizabeth (betty) Swanston in Coldingham in 1762, they have quite a large family with another son called Alexander born 1772. which through me for a while. Thanks all round for any information which may help my search.  ???

World War One / Northumberland Fusiliers. Which Hospital.
« on: Tuesday 07 August 12 08:54 BST (UK)  »
My Great Uncle John Ralph Carson, was with the Northumberland Fusiliers, 25th Tyneside Irish, 25/843. He was wounded then sent back to the UK, patched up then joined 1st/4th then was killed on the 14/09/1917.

I was hoping if there was any way anyone here could guide me on finding out which Hospital he would have been shipped to? Would there be any records still left on his stay in that Hospital? What was the route that would have been taken from France to the UK? A big ask but would be thankful for any assistance in hunting down this information/Records.
 Cheers for any ideas lowanslow.

Berwickshire / Purves Family from the Borders down to Gateshead.
« on: Sunday 27 May 12 15:39 BST (UK)  »
Hi to anyone with any knowledge of the Purves line from Scotland. I have been putting together my Purvis history and struggled for a while but I think I have cracked it, but would like any thoughts or help to verify that I am on the right track. My Father was George Edward Purvis, his Father George William Harvey Purvis, his father John George Purvis, his father was George Purvis/es who was born in Norham, Northumberland. When I looked up the records I found his father was a John Purves, a carpenter from Lonformacus. His wife was a Isabella Weatherstone born 1827. Looking through the census records I became stumped at 1851 but the clue was there with a  Thomas Purves aged 21, in the 1861 census  a surprise to say the least. Married before to a Mary Delgaty, if I am on the right track. Once I checked with the Scottish sites it led me to what I was looking for I hoped. This has led me to a Alexander Purves who Married Elizabeth Dryden, and I believe had three sons , William, John and Andrew. Found Williams line no problem, John I believe is the start to mine, Andrew after 1841 seems to vanish ( any help with him would be a added bonus) Sorry for the long winded post but am I on the right track ? Any help would be good and where do I go from here, concerning  Alexander and Elizabeth.

« on: Thursday 03 March 11 19:22 GMT (UK)  »
Looking for any information on the Lancaster bomber W4161, I have found that it belonged to 50 sqn where the crew to which my uncle belonged to flew with it for four times, then it was assigned to 44 sqn then back to 50 sqn designation 4451M. Does any one have any more information about this aircraft, did it survive the war to be scrapped or was it destroyed on a mission? Putting together some information on all the aircraft that the crew flew in. Any help would good cheers  :)

World War One / Great Grandad A. Conlon.
« on: Friday 03 December 10 17:22 GMT (UK)  »
Just need a quick hand in trying to trace my great Grandads regiments, he was a driver with the RFA, looking at the medal card it has his victory and British star as RFA 350b, then the 15 Star as RFA 23 a and b. Would this be the indication of his regiments or something else, he copped for a snipers bullet through the neck and head so the story goes, trying to also trace where would he have been sent to hospital in the UK. Thanks for any help in advance.  :)

World War Two / I need help. J.R. Conlon. VN-K ED 393.
« on: Monday 01 November 10 02:07 GMT (UK)  »
Where do I go from here, applied for J.R. Conlon's death certificate, it arrived and it says due to due to war operations. Is there any way, I can find out how he actually met his end, I am sorry for asking like this, but it would answer some questions the family needs to know about.  Would it be in his service record, which since now I have his certificate I can apply for, or do I need to look in another direction. Would be greatfull for any direction, thank you.
