Dumfriesshire / Gretna Baptisms 1816
« on: Sunday 14 August 22 11:37 BST (UK)  »
Hi,
Has anybody got any suggestions as to how I can get a look at the Baptism records for Gretna (or Graitney) for 1816? I don't mean the transcripts I mean copies of the original records?
I'm specifically looking for the record for Mary Ann LITTLE bap 1 Apr 1816. Her parents were John LITTLE and Jean BIRREL.
Thanks,
Tim

Staffordshire / George Jones (Potter) 1823 - 1893
« on: Thursday 02 February 17 17:54 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,
I'm trying to find a photo of George Jones the famous Staffordshire potter (born 1823 died 1893).
He's my wife's Gt Gt Grandfather.

I've got his ancestors back to his Grandfather (William Jones, born about 1750).

Any other snippets would be useful as well.

Many thanks,
Tim

Somerset / Zion Chapel at South Carey
« on: Monday 13 January 14 18:49 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,
An ancestor of mine was married at Zion Chapel, South Carey in 1879.
I'm assuming that the chapel was at Golden Lion Yard in Castle Carey but am unable to locate any records.
Does anybody know whether the chapel records are available anywhere?

I found a record of Congregational Baptisms from 1837 to 1971 (which I've put on FreeREG) but haven't been able to locate any other non Church of England records for the area.

Any help would be appreciated.

Northumberland Lookup Requests / St John Lee (Northumberland) - FERGUSON
« on: Sunday 20 January 13 17:31 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,
Can anyone tell me where I can access the pre-1837 St John Lee parish registers?

I'm particularly interested in the FERGUSON family of Fallowfield.

I found the George FERGUSON marriage to Elizabeth RAMSAY (St John Lee 14 May 1774) on FamilySearch, but I'm trying to get back from there.

Thanks
Tim

Durham / Ann PURVIS born about 1745
« on: Monday 31 May 10 09:22 BST (UK)  »
Does anybody have any information about Ann PURVIS who married Philip ROGERSON at Lamesley 01 Jul 1766 aged 21.

The only baptism that I can find is this one:
Baptisms, Chester-le-Street District
Record Number: 319720.0
Location: Chester-le-Street
Church: St. Mary and St. Cuthbert
Denomination: Anglican
26 Nov 1749 Ann Purvis, of Lumley, daughter of John Purvis

but I'm not convinced that it's the right Ann Purvis.

Any clues would be appreciated.

Sussex / Introduction to Sussex research, please
« on: Tuesday 27 April 10 16:52 BST (UK)  »
Hi,
re ADAMS, DAY, AVARD, CARD families

I'm seeking some guidance into sources for family tree research in the Sussex (particularly Rotherfield) area.

I use Ancestry.co.uk extensively which has obviously got me back to a certain stage, but now want to get beyond that (Parish Records etc.).

I've done a lot of research in Somerset and have found an excellent forum there (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/somersetfamilyhistory/) which has enabled me to share my research with others. I've also used FreeREG whereever possible.

I live some way from Sussex so doing the majority of my research sitting in front of my PC.

What would this group's advice be? I've used sussexweald.org.uk but what other sources (e.g. societies, forums, websites or CDs?) would you recommend?

Tim
