Family History Programs, Tree Organisation, Presentation / Family Historian Reports
« on: Friday 30 December 11 23:28 GMT (UK)  »
I'm currently running the 30 day free trial of this software, with view to buying it later, and so far I like what I'm seeing. However, I've come across a puzzle. (probably the first of many)

A number of reports I view, based on myself, born 1945, include the statement "He appeared in the census". How can this be possible?

All the data was imported as a Gedcom from PAF. I've checked this and there is no reference anywhere, in the notes or sources, to any census.

Any ideas?
Tecwyn.

Flintshire / Rhosesmor or Halkyn quarry fatality.
« on: Thursday 06 October 11 23:14 BST (UK)  »
Family lore has it that my late Aunt Mary (b1898, d1973) was engaged to be married, but that her fiance was killed in an accident at Rhosesmor or Halkyn quarry. My own, and only, recollection, is travelling on the bus from Holywell to Mold, being told by my mother that Auntie Mary's boyfriend was killed there, as we passed through the area.
Auntie Mary was a very quiet and shy person, and remained a spinster, so no-one knows anything more about this story.
Can anyone suggest where I might search for information? Which local newspapers, quarry records etc. As a guess, the timeframe would probably be 1918 - 1928.

I tried attaching this map to a lookup string but it appears that I cannot do that, so here goes again.

Technical Help / Facebook
« on: Sunday 27 February 11 22:03 GMT (UK)  »
In January, I received an e-mail inviting me to become someone's "friend" on Facebook. I'm not on Facebook, and have no interest in it, but do have part of my tree on Genes Reunited. I believe there's a link between them, so I checked my Genes contact list, but this preson wasn't on it, so I did nothing.

Today I received a reminder and the e-mail included 6 more people whom (quote) I might know. Two are close relatives who are on my Genes tree, one is a contact, two others are vaguely familiar, so may have been Genes contacts that I'd deleted from my list.

The one that concerns me is the chairman of my allotment society. I've had no contact with this person other than by e-mail, so can anyone explain how Facebook made this connection?

Canada / Arthur Thomas Clews born Wales
« on: Tuesday 07 December 10 01:34 GMT (UK)  »
Arthur Thomas Clews, b1885, left Wales to work in Canada, sometime in the early years of the century. His obituary states that he returned to Wales in 1917 due to ill health and passed away shortly afterwards. It also states that he was an Accountant working for The Imperial Bank of Canada.

I am trying to find out when, exactly, he emigrated. He was present with his family in Wales in 1901 and also in 1911, but on the latter census record he is said to be in ill health.

I'm wondering whether he left Wales initially in, say 1905ish, returned home before 1911, then left again for Canada, to return finally in 1917.

Any information or suggestions would be most gratefully accepted.
Tecwyn. :)

I'd be most grateful if someone could clean this photo for me. There are clearly a number of blemishes, particularly between the two chairs at the bottom of the photo.

Thanks in anticipation,

Tecwyn.

Gan obeithio y gwneith Trystan ganiatau -

Oes 'na rhywun yn cofio'r farthoniaeth ddigri sy'n cychwyn -

"Rhech fain galed, aeth allan drwy'r pared.
Neb yn ei gweled, ond yn clywed y clec."

Roedd Mam yn ei adrodd pan oeddwn I'n blentyn, ond allai ddim cofio dim mwy.

Roedd na son am ydlan, ac yn y diwedd, mochyn daliodd y rech, gan eu bod yn gweld gwynt!!

Faswn I'n falch iawn o gael y darn yn gyflawn.

Hwyl fawr.
Tecwyn.

Can I take advantage of your generosity and ask someone to restore this photograph?
Finding out who defaced it is an interesting quest, but I'm sure the lady will look better without it.

Kindest regards,
Tecwyn.
