Derry (Londonderry) / church/civil marraige
« on: Friday 21 January 11 23:00 GMT (UK)  »
Seen marraige certs of my gr. grandparents on my fathers side of the family, but whats puzzling me is that theres both a civil marraige and a church marraige certs. The church marraige was in 1897 in waterside RC church and the civil one is for the same day. In both certs it says by the rev. Gribbons but in the church one it also says 'Disp in banns'. Anybody know is this just normal practice?

Just to add, in the church cert it says under Denomination, both Roman Catholics and in the civil cert it says both Registrar District???

Derry (Londonderry) / Matthew Lyle - Derry
« on: Wednesday 13 October 10 15:50 BST (UK)  »
Hi folks, i was wondering if theres any records about for postmen circa 1870 - 1900. Found out that my great, great grandfather on my fathers side of the family was a local postman in the waterside area of the town. Would it be under the Royal Mail or An Post, and does anybody know do they keep records of their employees from that far back? All help greatly appreciated, thank you.

Derry (Londonderry) / Mary E. Murray
« on: Tuesday 09 February 10 14:15 GMT (UK)  »
Hello folks, i've been trying to find the date of death of Mary E. Murray for a while now but no success. She was my grandmothers (Margeret Murray) only sister. She was born in 1898 and was at Fountain Hill on the 1901 census and Herbert St in the 1911 one. After that the trail is lost. Sometime after 1911 (according to my grandmother, who told my mother) she was accidently hit with a 'snowball' with a stone inside it and shortly that was put in a mental hospital. I am nearly sure she is buried with her mother in the old ardmore graveyard but as there are no headstones marking he grave and no records of there i'm at a loss??

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you.
