Please could you restore the attached and also look at perhaps colourising this.  We would love to find out who the gentlemen either side of WO Stanley White are and this might help. Thanks

World War Two / Warrant Officer Stanley White 1282575
« on: Friday 22 January 16 13:27 GMT (UK)  »
I dont know if any of you can help.  The Sgt I work with has obtained (legally LOL) the medals and some memorabilia of the above.  He likes to find out more about the subject. I wonder if any of you can find any more details about him.  All we know is that he was born on 22 April 1921 (but not where), that he was a Wireless Operator/Air Gunner and that he was in both Africa and Burma.
I have attached a pic.  We think he is the Warrant Officer in the middle :)
Many thanks

World War Two / Bomber Command veteran is looking for his friends family
« on: Monday 23 March 15 11:29 GMT (UK)  »
An Australian veteran friend of mine would love to get in contact with the family of the following:
1436379 Sgt Arthur Woodburn Mortimer of 156 Sqn who was killed on 14 February 44 and is buried in Hannover, Germany.  There are no details of any family listed on the following http://www.cwgc.org/find-war-dead/casualty/2074944/MORTIMER,%20ARTHUR%20WOODBURN
so if anyone can help we would be very grateful because as Joe says "the loss of my friend still leaves a big hole in my life and I wonder if the family are aware of where he's buried?"
I am going to research on Ancestry but if anyone knows the Mortimer family it would be great if they could get in touch so I can put them in touch with Joe who lives in Queensland :)

Armed Forces / Help to find this dam?
« on: Thursday 12 March 15 16:40 GMT (UK)  »
Please could anyone help to place where th pictures were taken on 20 April 1946.  One of my colleagues is looking to sort out the military history for his grandfather Cpl D Sumner.  His grandfather is in the centre.  The person on the left is AC B Baker and on the right LAC E Owen.

Any information would be useful.  He knows his father was in Antwerp in 1944 when a V2 rocket struck but that's about all...

Thanks for any help anyone can offer :)

« on: Monday 03 November 14 16:48 GMT (UK)  »
Please could someone do a look up in the Gloucestershire Rural records for the burial place of the above.  It is listed in Gloucestershire Rural Records for 8 June 1943 and is listed in Volume 6a Page 393.  This is for a query on WW2 Talk about this Australian born gentleman.
Thank you.

World War Two / RAF Strubby Memorial
« on: Thursday 26 June 14 15:57 BST (UK)  »
On 24 August 2014 there is a memorial being unveiled at what used to be RAF Strubby (near Alford, Lincs).  If anyone has/had relatives who were either ground or aircrew  on the following squadrons 144, 227, 280, 404 or 619 the organisers would like to hear from you or them.  It is going to be a big event with flypast from BBMF, stalls, hog roast and RAF presence.  There will also be someone there with archives about the airfield.  If you are interested in going you will need a formal invitation.  Please pm me and I will put you in touch with Jan Dye who is my contact with the organisers.  :)

World War Two / Project Propellor 2015
« on: Tuesday 24 June 14 12:39 BST (UK)  »
I have just been to the 2014 event, on 21 June, which was held at Gloucester Airport in the environs of the Jet Age Museum. They will now be looking forward to 2015 which will be another venue.  It is open to all WW2 aircrew from all three services and Graham Cowie my friend would like to get more next year than he did this year (there was 100+ veterans there).  What happens is that the aircrew member is matched up with a local(ish) pilot who then flies him to the venue in whatever aircraft they fly... If anyone knows any aircrew who might be interested in attending this please have a look at http://www.projectpropeller.co.uk

One Name Studies: A to G / Chard family
« on: Friday 07 March 14 09:55 GMT (UK)  »
An Australian friend of mine Tiana Walker who is involved with the 462/466 Squadron Association as her family was on that squadron is looking to find the rest of the crew.  She is currently looking to make contact with the family of Cyril Steven Chard who was born in 1922 and died possibly in 1995.  He was married to Dorothy Tomlinson and had 2 children.  If any members of the family see this she would very much like to be in contact and tell you more about his part of the war.  If you prefer to use me as a conduit please pm me and I will give you her email. Otherwise than that please find the 462/466 Squadron page on Facebook and contact her that way.  They are a very friendly bunch :)

Dumfriesshire / John Anderson marriage to Helen Murray in 1835
« on: Saturday 29 December 12 09:24 GMT (UK)  »
I am staying with friends in New Zealand who are related to the two above.  I can't find details of their marriage on FindMyPast.  They married in Langholm.  Helen was born in Conoby while John was born in Temple, Midlothian. Could someone please check if there are records of the marriage but also is there any record of either of the two families to suggest how they may have met.
Regards
Dee  :)
