Ayrshire / MUNN, MCMUN, MICKLEMUN
« on: Sunday 27 November 11 03:56 GMT (UK)  »
Would appreciate any help in locating the following ancestors.  I do have Peter's descendents, but cannot find his birth.  William seems to have changed his name three times.  There may be more siblings for Peter but I haven't found them yet.

William Micklemun born circa 1766, possibly to John Micklemun and Jean Micklewrath in Maybole.  He married Jenat Walker in 1788 in Kirkmichael.  They had the following family:

Jenat, b. July 6th 1795 (in church records as McMun, b. Castle Bride?, Coylton)
Peter, b. Coylton 1799 (birth not found, parents listed as above (William Munn/Janet Walker) on death certificate)
James, b. July 9th 1802, (in church records as Munn, b. Drumsnvie?, Coylton)

Thanks :)

Fife / CAIRNS
« on: Wednesday 16 November 11 01:52 GMT (UK)  »
I have CAIRNS in Dunfermline as follows:

Andrew Cairns m. Christian Anderson 11 March 1815 in Dunfermline,  They had the following children:
Andrew, b. 1815 Dunfermline
William, b. 1816 Dunfermline
James, 1819 Dunfermline (m. Jean Stevenson)
Robert, 1821Carnock (m. Ann Sanders Brown)
Janet 1823 Carnock
Helen 1826 Carnock
Agnes 1829 Carnock
Thomas 1833 Carnock
Christian 1836 Dunfermline

Most of this family (not Robert) moved to Kinross, where they are in the 1841 Census.  There is also an Isabella in the family, aged nine, same age as Thomas in the census, but I can't find a birth for her.

By the 1851 Census wife Christian has died and Andrew (1794) is living in Clackmannan with daughter Christian.  He is alone in the 1861 census in Dollar, Clackmannanshire.

I am descended from James (1819) but do have information about some of his siblings, including Robert (1821) who is mentioned elsewhere on this board.

Dunbartonshire / MUNN, STEWART - CUMBERNAULD
« on: Sunday 13 November 11 22:37 GMT (UK)  »
My earliest Munn in Cumbernauld was Peter Munn, b, 1799 in Coylton Ayrshire, who moved to Cumbernauld right after his marriage in 1825, Dreghorn, to Elizabeth Wilson.  They had eight children, all born in Cumbernauld.

My earliest Stewart in Cumbernauld was Peter Stewart who moved to Cumbernauld between 1861 and 1871, from Kincardine, Perthshire.  Peter was a grain miller, firstly at Fannyside Mill then at Lenziemill (hence the Lenziemill Archives).  Peter had three wives (1. Marjory King 2. Agnes Maxwell 3. Jane Munn.) and fourteen children in total.  I'm sure there are a lot of descendants I haven't tracked down yet!

Ayrshire / Munn, McMunn, Micklemun
« on: Thursday 11 February 10 03:01 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

I came across this old posting (pasted on the bottom of this) which is very relevant to me.  William Micklemun/McMun/Munn was my 5th great grandfather.  He was listed as all three on different documents.

Since the posting is now locked, perhaps Graeme could re-post if he reads this, or anyone else with information.

Hi Revmother,
I was wondering if you could check the Coylton burials.
Specifically I'm searching for a Helen Richmond whom died about 1838.
Her maiden name was Munn.
Also I'm searching for any Munn, McMunn,or William Micklemun whom all died at Coylton but maybe too early for records.
Hope this is not too trouble.
Kind regards,
                    Graeme
