South Africa / Cecil Howard Beaumont-Thom
« on: Sunday 28 August 16 07:40 BST (UK)  »
Hi all
I have been researching my wife's S.A ancestors for a number of years. Her great uncle CECIL HOWARD BEAUMONT THOMAS has always been a bit of a puzzle for me as I could find little information regarding him.

I only knew that he was the son of John and Sophia MarianThomas,  that he was born in Nov 1888 at Longlands River diggings and that he had three male siblings (I have lots of info regarding these three).

However I recently found a couple of interesting documents.

The first is a death report of the death of SUSAN BEAUMONT-THOMAS (nee GOOZEN). It shows that she died of eclampsia on 23rd July 1924 during or shortly after childbirth. The certificate shows that she was 20 years old and her death was reported and signed by C. H. Beaumont-Thomas.

The second document is the baptism register for WILLIAM RICHMOND HOWARD BEAUMONT-THOMAS dated 10th Oct 1924 it shows his date of birth as 22nd July (the day before Susan died). The child died on 16th Oct 1924. I also found the death report which was signed by his father C H Beaumont-Thomas.

A few years ago on the now defunct Ancestry24 site I found reference to the will and estate of
Alan Emmanuel Howard Beaumont-Thomas. It was reference to his estate and will from the Cape Town Deceased Estates Index 2271/1968Will. It shows he died 20 March 1968. He Married ANNE MARGARET MICHAUX 11th Mar 1934. The marriage register shows that he was aged 20 so he would have been born in 1919.  The two witnesses were WJ and L Moyse (I have no idea who they were) I always assumed that he was a son of Cecil H B-T as there is no mention of him in the Wills of Cecil's three siblings.

I am seeking any further information or guidance regarding Cecil.
1.  Details of his marriage to Susan.
2.  Is Alan is his son, who was his mother (Susan would only have been 15 if it were her).
3.  Was Cecil married more than once.
4.  Are there any more children.

As I live in Malaysia, all of my research has to be done online, mostly through Ancestry.com and Family search so any information or guidance towards any other sources would be greatly appreciated.

Kind regards
Keith

Warwickshire / Florence Hart
« on: Friday 22 May 15 10:25 BST (UK)  »
Hi all

I am trying to find any information regarding my wife, Susan’s, grandmother, Florence Hart, without much luck I’m afraid. I would appreciate a little help from someone who is a bit more skilled than me and can spare the time please.

FLORENCE HART 1st April 1889 – 24th September 1976.
The only info. I have is below:

1901 Census aged 12, inmate at Coleshill, Warwickshire.

1912 Marriage to George Frederick Wooton 9th Nov. 1912 at Aston Brook, St Mary, Warwickshire. Her Father is recorded as being a lock maker named Joseph in the marriage register.
Q4 1915 George F Wooton died in Birmingham.

1922 Q4 Marriage to Bertie Alwyn Beaumont-Thomas in Birmingham.

26th July. 1955 Bertie A. B-T died in Birmingham.

1976 Died in Birmingham.
I cannot find her birth registration, 1891 census, or the 1912 census records for her.

Florence had two siblings:-

JOSEPH HART 1901 census shows his birth as abt. 1891. It also records him as being an inmate at Coleshill, Warwickshire. This is the only info. I have found.

ALBERT HART 1901 & 1912 census shows his birth as abt. 1897. Both census’ record him as being an inmate at Coleshill Warwickshire. Again, this is the only info. I have found.

According to family stories, one of her brothers served with Bertie during WW1 in the Warwickshire regiment, he was supposed to have been a cobbler. I have a copy of Bertie’s war records.

Also according to family stories her mother had a drink problem (I’ve found a Priscilla Hart that was placed on the Birmingham blacklist and prohibited to buy alcohol but I cannot link her to Florence)

Kind regards

South Africa / John Burritt Thomas - Storekeeper
« on: Friday 11 April 14 05:01 BST (UK)  »
Hi all
My wife's g grandfather was recorded as being a storekeeper in the Kimberley area from the early 1880's to 1891.

His first son, William's baptism in 1883 records the family abode as Niekerks Rush.
Second son, Gearge's baptism in 1885 records the family abode as Longlands Vaal River district.
Third son, Cecil's baptism in 1887 records them living at Longlands River Diggings.
Fourth son Bertie's baptism in 1890 records them living at Barkly; the register is headed Barkly in the division of Griqualand.

I wonder if anyone has any knowledge regarding stores or storekeepers in these areas and whether it's likely that there are any contemporary records or photographs in existence, perhaps in museums.

I live in Malaysia so all my research has to be done online, also, I am not familiar with the different districts around the Kimberley area, therefore, I would appreciate any help or advise.

Kind regards
Keith

Yorkshire (West Riding) / Walker Street, King Cross, Halifax
« on: Tuesday 01 April 14 07:56 BST (UK)  »
Hi All
My Grandmother, Ethel Hollinrake 1892-1969 was born in Blenheim Street, Hebden Bridge. The 1901 census records her living at 16 Walker Street, King Cross and the 1911 records her living in the same street but at number 26. At some point prior to 1916 when my father Willie 1916-1978 was born, she was back at number 16. She worked most of her life at the Baldwin & Walker wool mill also in Walker street. My grandmother moved to a maisonette in Illingworth in the mid 1960's just prior to the houses in Walker Street being demolished.

As a child I remember going to Walker Street many many times but, sadly, I have no photographs of the street. If there are any kindly souls who have photos that they could possibly share with me it would be greatly appreciated.

Kind regards from Penang, Malaysia

Hi all
I believe this church is no longer in use so all the registers would have been archived somewhere. I am particularly interested in the baptism records for the years shortly after WW1. Could someone advise me where they are located and whether they have been digitized please?

Kind regards

Breconshire / Thomas and Kinsey families from Builth
« on: Saturday 19 October 13 04:10 BST (UK)  »
Hi all
I have a copy of my wife’s 5x G grandfather, Mathew Kinsey's will, dated 22 August 1772; unfortunately the five page document isn’t that easy to interpret.

However, I have managed to glean that his wife’s name was Martha and that he was an innholder in Hay, Brecon. His daughter was Anne Kinsey (I don’t know whether she had any siblings). She married John Thomas an excise officer from Builth, Brecon, I have a copy of their marriage bond.

Is there anyone doing any similar research of the Kinsey or Thomas families from around Builth?
I am interested in any information regarding them but I am particularly interested to find Martha's surname.

I am also interested in finding out more of what excise officers actually did in Builth; if someone could point me in the right direction as to some literature regarding the profession, I would be grateful.

Kind regards

Keith

Warwickshire / Marston Green childrens home
« on: Friday 27 September 13 07:43 BST (UK)  »
Hi All

My wife's Grandmother, Florence HART and her two brothers, Joseph and Albert are recorded on the 1901 census as being inmates at Marston green with their ages respectively recorded as 12,10 & 4.

Florence' first marriage register entry and banns to George Frederick Wooton shows her fathers name as Joseph and his occupation as a lock maker. It also records him as being deceased. This is all the information I have on him and I have no information at all regarding her mother.

Florence' first husband died in 1915 and she married Bertie Alwyn Beaumont-Thomas (my wife's grandfather) in 1922.

The census records all three children as being born in Birmingham Warwickshire but I cannot find her or her brothers birth registrations, however, her death registration shows her birth as 01 April 1889.

The only other bit of information I have, and it's purely an anecdotal family story is that Florence' mother was an alcoholic and was 'well known' to the local constabulary.

I sent an email to the Birmingham Library to see if there are any surviving records from Marston Green, unfortunately the automated reply stated that they cannot do personal searches.

Has anyone got any information regarding the family or can give me some advice on how to proceed further.

All my research has to be done online as I live in Malaysia.

Kind regards
Keith

Australia / Daniel Thomas Family
« on: Monday 29 July 13 09:33 BST (UK)  »
Hi All
I am researching the family of Daniel Thomas b. 1831 Upton upon Severn, Worcestershire, England.

He married Elizabeth Johnson Joyes in Shoreditch, London on 11 Jly 1851.
They emigrated from UK to Australia travelling on the “Agricola” 26 Feb 1853.
Elizabeth died in Gawler, South Australia in 1859 aged 23. The didn’t have any children.

Daniel then married Fanny Gregg in Seven hill, S.A. she was born Abt 1829 in Capa Begh, County Clare, Ireland.
They had three children:

William Harris Thomas 1861-1919
married Alice Josephine Barron in Kensington S.A. 1881

John Price Thomas 1862-1942
married Rebecca Jane Duncan 1859-1913 in Adelaide S.A 1883

Fanny Maria Thomas 1865-?
Married William Henry Edward Hodges 1865-1948 in South Melbourne 1887

I wonder if anyone could help me with the following questions please?

1. What happened to Daniels second wife, Fanny, after his death; I can’t find a re-marriage or even when she died.

2. Also, I cannot find Alice Josephine’s birth or death details nor  Fanny Maria’s death details

Many thanks
Keith
