Kent Lookup Requests / Charles and William Lawrence
« on: Thursday 06 February 14 22:39 GMT (UK)  »
I'm looking to establish the parentage of Charles Lawrence born about 1834 in Kent.
He would be my GreatGrandfather.
On 1881 and 1891 census he is noted as from Deal working as an agricultural labourer.

At time of marriage to Elizabeth Hammond (born Gardiner) in Gt Mongeham 1854 his father is noted as William Lawrence.
Have looked through all the census returns but prior to seeing the marriage certificate I went down a different route looking at a Stephen Lawrence which must have been incorrect.

There are a couple of Charles' on 1841 census return but none with a father called William.
Any suggestions or help appreciated.

Thanks, Martin

Kent Lookup Requests / Lawrence
« on: Tuesday 08 October 13 22:40 BST (UK)  »
Hello All,
Some time ago I had some help regarding the Lawrence's in Dover/Deal.
I have recently obtained a copy marriage certificate which has thrown my believed  line awry.
On the eighteenth of September 1877 my Gt Grandfather Charles (43 - labourer) married Elizabeth Hammond (previously Gardner) at the parish church of Gt Mongeham.

Fathers name is written as William Lawrence.

Prior to having this document I had believed that Charles's father name was Stephen married to Mary Ann Seath about 1830 and I had followed that line.
I have details of Census records for Stephen and Charles from 1841 onwards but the spanner thrown into the works has derailed me which a decent sized spanner might well do. And how do you pronounce Mongeham?

Thanks, Martin

London & Middlesex Lookup Requests / Homes/hospitals
« on: Wednesday 23 December 09 16:07 GMT (UK)  »
Hello All,

I was kindly given the census information of my Grandmothers sisters whereabouts on the 1911 census.

She was Sarah Ann Chaney (1884) who spent her adult life in institutions.
From the 1911 census it says that she was an inmate at 112, Downs Park Road, Lower Clapton.

Does anybody know what this place was, all the  women on that page of the census were below 26,  mostly teenagers.

Were they pregnant, mentally ill, with learning disabilities?

Sarah Ann lived into the 1950's still in a home so we are talking 50 + years and I would very much like to try and track this poor woman's dreadful existence.

Thanks,
Martin
