The Common Room / Buriels - Peckham 1923 and 1950
« on: Friday 21 September 12 14:33 BST (UK)  »
Hi All
Not quite sure where to stick my request for advice/guidance/help?

Two ancestors gt grandmother and gt gt grandmother both died in Peckham but I am battling an infinate brickwall in trying to track down where they were buried.

Jessie Matilda Messervy died aged 85 on 20 Aug 1950 in Peckham (Gairloch Rd) and I am also intrigued in corset making history as according to 1911 census she was a corset maker

Lilby Myrtle Merrick (other first name variants are Sylby, Silby, Lily and as per her death certificate Sylvia) died from TB on 17 Aug 1923 aged 35 also in Peckham (I believe Gairloch Rd)

I have tried other sites and meet up with a big fat "unsuccessful search" and now I am thinking local churches, cemetaries and so on.  The church where Lylby married was St Judes but has been demolished but did not take buriels.  Not a Londoner myself so wondering if anyone has any pointers as to where I should be aiming my search please?

I am in and out on school run so will have answers to any questions if any as soon as I can attach myself to the PC

Thank you all in advance - these two ancestors are truly beneath my skin

Caernarvonshire Lookup Requests / BAPTISM John Roderick JONES Ffestiniog 1859
« on: Sunday 24 June 12 18:01 BST (UK)  »
Hi There
I am stuck with my ancestor John Roderick Jones who was born 26 Oct 1859.  A family member provided me with this info but knew no more.  I jnow from what I am told that he was born in Ffestiniog and from the BMD indexes I have 5 possible John Jones born in that quarter.  From his marriage certificate I have his father's name - also John so I am wondering if there may be a baptism record available?
Having three sets of John Jones is providing rather a challenging brick wall :-[
Many thanks in advance

Lancashire / St Johns Preston Lancs (1816)
« on: Tuesday 12 June 12 19:44 BST (UK)  »
Hi There
I am stuck on a marriage of two ancestors - I want to find the fathers of bride and groom for the following :-
Marriage: 9 Oct 1816 St John, Preston, Lancashire, England
Solomon Gardner - Bachelor of this Parish
Mary Ann Eiden - Spinster of this Parish
Witness: Jane Hodgson?; Thomas Eltham?; James Hatch
Married by Licence by: William Towne Curate
    Register: Marriages 1813 - 1817, Page 246, Entry 158
    Source: LDS Film 94014
What is the best way for me to do this?  I have found the couple in census records and it shows Mary Ann as born in Topsham Devon and John Solomon Gardner as born inb Garstang.  I am unsure as to where and how to proceed with this search and how would I get to see an original record as opppsed to the transcribed record?
Eeek! All help and knowledge gratefully received
Many thanks in advance

The Common Room / Which Records Office?
« on: Wednesday 18 August 10 09:25 BST (UK)  »

Hi There

My great grandmother was born in Forest Gate in Essex in 1888 and I am now wanting to see if I can track down any baptism certificates for her (hopefully it may give a little more info on her father as he was a bit of a suprise)

Sooo.... would I need to be looking into the Essex records for Forest Gate or a records office that covered West Ham at that time?  Sadly I am not aware of which churches to be looking at (another mystery is finding marriage certs for her mother so poss a diff church or married out of the country .... ) so any pointers or advice whill be appreciated

Thank you in advance as all help and guidance is appreciated

Kindest

Mari

Alderney, Guernsey, Jersey, Sark / Messervy approx 1862
« on: Saturday 28 November 09 21:55 GMT (UK)  »
Hi There
Am trying to track an ancester born in St Martins, Jersey but am having no luck so am thinking I am looking in completely the wrong place  :(
He is one William Ernest Messervy born approx 1862.

Am also looking for his marriage certificate to two women but in paticular a lady he married in St Peter Port Guernsey in 1883 .... again I think I must be looking in the wrong places - her name was Ada Jane Le Riche.  I am able to track them (chase William more like) on the Census returns but all the pointers for ages and places lead me to one of those fab Ancestral brick walls!

Please help or advise

Kindest regards
