Europe / Adolf Carl Peter Bruning in Hamburg please
« on: Thursday 27 August 20 06:28 BST (UK)  »
Is it possible to find anything on Adolf Carl Peter Bruning? Born Hamburg Free City 7 NOV 1890 according to his naturalisation papers. He went to England, was there for 1911 Census and then migrated to Australia in 1912. Ended up in Adelaide. He was a glassblower.
Ancestry says that it has a birth record (maybe) , but I don't have a world subscription. Just anything about his parents or anything from Germany. I seem to have a lot of info, but it is a dead end at this stage.
Thank you for any help at all

Looking for military information on Alfred BRADSHAW born 1861, in East Surrey Regiment, 3rd Battallion, supposedly deserted in May 1881. Number 753.

I have been told that there may be information on Ancestry, but I don't have the access.

Any info on his military "career" and desertion would be greatly appreciated.

Australia / Herbahn family immigration to Newcastle
« on: Tuesday 02 February 16 01:28 GMT (UK)  »
Looking for the shipping record for Henriette HERBAHN (or HERBOHN) aged approx 29 and her children Gustave, Hermina, John, Augusta and Amelia. Who have arrived in Newcastle in late September 1881 having sailed from New Zealand.

The family is German but emigrated to New Zealand in 1875.

The family story goes that they arrived in Newcastle and came by coach to Sydney. They show up in Benevolent Society records arriving on 27/9/1881 and being taken out by Henrietta's husband the next day. So the ship would have arrived in Newcastle maybe on the 26th September?

Thank you heaps for your help

Australia / South Australia Edmund George COX from about 1950
« on: Thursday 03 September 15 00:39 BST (UK)  »
I am looking for any information on Edmund George COX who was born 1905 in Charlton, Kent, UK, moved from Sydney to South Australia about 1950. He is in the Sydney Electoal Roll in 1949. Would it be possible to check the Electoral Roll from 1950 onwards in SA ?

He may have gone to live with his sister Beatrice Brunning in Adelaide, but he ends up at 157 Queen St in Peterborough SA.

The family story is that he married twice after moving to SA and , to keep away from his second wife, he changed his name to Leslie HOWARD.

Any information would be greatly appreciated, like marriages, occupation (I have a pension record that says he was working for SA Government).

Thank you

I can't find this guy anywhere...

Looking for Thomas Mileham COX born 18 Dec 1862 on board the coal hulk SOHO off Woolwich Arsenal.

He was indentured to his father, also Thomas Mileham COX, as a waterman and lighterman from 10/7/77 until 10/10/82.

in the 1881 census, his father is at 12 Nile St Woolwich, with his wife Ruth and no others.

Thomas (the younger) marries in 1885 to Martha LOXLEY in Woolwich. In the 1871 census he is on the SOHO. In the 1891 census he is at 4 Orchard pl Woolwich.

I have checked Ancestry and Familysearch, but I can't find him.... where. oh where can he be? I am stumped.

Any help is greatly appreciated
thanks
Verna

Also, a bit off topis here... he had a brother named John, born 15 Jan 1861 who was indentured on the same date to their father. All I have on him is that he drowned. No date, nothing.... any way to find out more?

thanks again

World War One / Help to find Thomas Cox 57911 please
« on: Monday 23 February 09 09:10 GMT (UK)  »
My grandfather had a story of his brother Thomas being killed in the Great War. I have found a service record and he served in France but he was discharged medically unfit after a gunshot wound to the thigh (it looks like). He was in the Royal Field Artillery nbr 57911 (3808 when he was in the reserves). He was awarded the SWB in 1929.
I can find no record of his death. I am assuming that it was after 1929 . any suggestions?
I have 11 pages of his service record that I found on Ancestry and his medal record also from Ancestry. Funny that there are no medical records..... but it DID say that he had bacillura (bacteria in the urine...)
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Maybe the family in Australia just heard that he was wounded and presumed the worst?
Thanks again

Europe / German immigrant to UK
« on: Tuesday 16 September 08 06:54 BST (UK)  »
I am looking for Adolf Bruning who, according to his application for Naturalisation in Australia, was born in Hamburg Free City Germany on 7th November, 1890.
He came to Australia on board the SS Themistocles 6th June 1912 from London.

It would be interesting to know if he came to the Uk alone, or with his family and when he came. He marries a London girl in Sydney in 1913, I wonder if he met her in London or here?

Anyway, any leads would be appreciated.

Thanks heaps
