Hello.

Just wondering whether anyone might be able to hep me find a birth record and/or any other details re parents etc for one of my ancestors.

I am looking for John McAuley (sometimes spelt McAulay). I can find him in the England census from 1881 onwards when he resides in Gillingham, Kent.  Each census suggests he was born in Lurgan around around 1846. Although the 1911 census suggest about 1856.

In 1873 he is in Brompton Barracks in Kent (a private in the 10th Foot) and marries Jane Adams (previously Richards). On the marriage certificate his father's name is noted as Richard McAuley (Labourer). They are married in a Catholic church.

He is 27 on the marriage certificate. They go on to have about 7 (that I know of) children and I can list their names if it helps.

I can't find him on any England census before 1881 - although the variations on the spelling of his surname make him hard to find (for me anyway!).

Any help would be amazing.

This is a bit of a longshot. 

I am trying to track a George Sinclair who may or may not have been born on the Isle of Arran in about 1872. 

He was a bit of a rogue and it may have just have been a tall story that he was Arran born...but can anyone see any trace of a birth for anyone of that name around that time in Arran??

Are there any Sinclairs on the 1871 census for Arran that might have been his family?

Sorry for the lack of any other details.  We know what happened to him from about 1901 onwards but his birth, family and early life are a mystery. One branch of the family has always thought he, or his family, were from the isle of Arran.

Any assistance would be brilliant.  We are almost at the end of our tethers trying to find him!

Hi - I am trying to fill in some missing gaps for the NEW family and wonder if anyone can help?

I have William and Mary New born 1796 and 1801 ish respectively.  In 1841 they were living in Stanton Fitzwarren and had children Joseph 20, ELiza 15, Jane 3, Henry 5, Eleanor 3 and John 10 weeks.  I believe William dies sometime between 1841 and 1851 cos by the 1851 census Mary is a widow living with just two of the children (John and Edward).  I can find Mary New on census up till 1881 - she dies in 1889 and seems to have been some sort of yeast dealer/merchant after she was widowed.

I would like to try and find her maiden name but can't find a record of her marriage with William New and do not know when it might have been.  So - can anyone find a marriage record that matches?

Mary's daughter Jane is my link to Mary and I know a little bit about her.  Born around 1838 and living (as above) in Stanton Fitzwarren in 1841.  She finds her way to London and marries a Thomas Dalton Embleton in London in 1860. In 1861 she lives with her husband near Regents Park in London and they have one daughter, Jane.  By 1871 she is back in Wiltshire and living in Stratton-St-Margaret with her daughter Jane and another daughter Roseanna/Rosina 3, and a son William 1 but without Thomas Embleton - she then appears to settle down with a lodger (Joshua Hyde) and stays in the Stratton area, eventually using the name Hyde (although I don't know whether they ever married or not).  I don't know what happened to Thomas Embleton or if he was the natural father of the younger two children.

The gap with Jane is not being able to find her on the 1851 census.  She isn't living with her parents in Stanton but I can't seem to find her anywhere else.  Can anyone help with this?

John was born around 1846 in Lurgan, Ireland and Jane around 1848 in Melksham, Wiltshire.  On the 1881 census they are living in Gillingham and 1901 in Chatham.  Can't seem to find them in 1891.  I also can't find a record of their marriage.  Don't know Janes maiden name and can't find either of them before 1881.

Any help would be appreciated.
