Hi
Am still a bit stumped if anyone is able to help?
I have George Mackay b 1791 (son of John Mackay and Mary Innes) in Tongue apprenticed to a tailor Alex Munroe when 13 in 1804. Was he lost at sea at 22 (Dec 1813)? Or Question is when did he or his chn migrate to NZ (Banks Peninsula, Canterbury maybe). Curious, & thanks for reading. :)

Sutherland / Re: apprenticeship from Sutherlandshire/Dallas of Wick

Greetings and Hi - I have just picked up curiosity again since posting in Jan 2010.
I have an 'indenture'/ apprenticeship agreement between Alexander Munro (Tailor, Parish of Durness) and George Mackay (of Mellings, Parish of Tongue) and his 'cautioner'/father is John Mackay, dated 28 June,  1804 at Errobol.
It was witnessed by John Ross & Chas McIntosh.
I was hoping someone could tell me anything about this agreement and my Mackay ancestors & when they left Scotland to eventually arrive in NZ. I did receive 1 post telling me John Mackay & Mary Innes are parents but unsure of anything else. Could you tell me when which Mackay from this family arrived in NZ and if they had children dates/places etc.  Sorry this is all the info I have, at present. Also looking for info on Thomas Dallas (born Wick 1837, died Dunedin 1882), son of Alexander Dallas (B. Latheron, Scotland) and Elizabeth Oal (B. Bower Caithness, 1811), both died in New York, as this is my wife's ancestor. Much appreciated.
Slainte -  Many thanks for reading this!  :)

Sutherland / Re: Mackays' - from Sutherlandshire to NZ

Thanks Gadget - appreciate the info.
I am beginning to look into family tree etc (& awaiting information) so don't have accurate records of immigration names & dates to NZ yet. I have read that many Mackays left Brora for NZ during the Highland Clearances, in 1840. However, not sure if this is linked to my side of the Mackays. Ofcourse, many would have gone to Canada, Sth Africa and Australia too before possibly arriving in NZ. Although, guess in those times most would only emmigrate once. Will respond in time.

Thanks again, Hamish :)
