Hi Aghadowey,
"However, the 1911 entry for Kathleen J. O'Doherty shows she is Catholic and thus not as likely to marry in a Presbyterian Church (although not impossible)-"
www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Londonderry/Londonderry_Urban__1_/Shipquay_Place/601674"

"Are you trying to work backwards (and also forwards) from that 1913 marriage?"

I am working both directions. the marriage record threw me too when it was in a presbyterian church, but I have had to widen the search to include Catholic and O'Doherty and all variations of Kate, Catharine etc etc.

That census of 1911 shipquay place barmaid, is the one I am following, but I cannot place her in the 1901 census, too many possibles.

HI Aghadowey
yes this is the same family. Found William after 1915, remarried living in Bangor direction. i am still searching for my grandmother. Kathleen Josephine Doherty.
The boys were raised by their granny in Derry. (Fathers mother)  William appears to have remarried and had a new family, however there has never been a marriage record found to that effect.  It is possible they were not married legally.  So in the absence of a marriage record of any kind, it is possible Kathleen was still alive.  So it widens the year of death range for Kathleen.

Those trees online, one is mine, the other is the "new family".  Whom I have been in touch with and they do not have any marriage records for Willliam &  Charlotte Smith, c1920/21 in Dublin.  It is what they were told growing up, and that the marriage and childrens birth records were destroyed in fires.

Hi I was wondering if anyone knew of any employee records relating to the Northern Counties Hotel in derry, run by a Mrs Gibson at Shipquay place.

I have a Kathleen J Doherty employed as a barmaid there in 1911 census. Hard to confirm her in 1901 census, there are too many possibles. I have no birth date or death date.  So was following the possibility that employement records existed. Or photos of employees (I should be so lucky!)

I have a marriage record for Kathleen Josephine Doherty:
9/10/1913 at Gt James St. Presbyterian church, Derry.
William Hagan, full age, clerk, Residence, Derry, bachelor,
Father: John James Hagan, occupation: clerk.
Kathleen Doherty, full age, Residence, Derry, spinster,
Father: Patrick Doherty, Police man.
Witnesses: EM or K Hegan & E W Arbuckle

Also have 2 children to this couple, 1913 & 1914 but no leads as to what happened Kathleen Doherty afterwards.

Any pointers would be appreciated.

Hi KGarrard
yes I tried that and when i sent the messages this comes up

hence unable to send.

Death record shows William Hagan died from Cardiac Failure due to pulmonary tubercolosis due to toxameia.  It seems he drank contaminated milk while in the army and contracted TB.
So I suppose that means he did not die in service, but rather was discharged and then died at home?

Per Quist, I thought that was the same family too a while back. no definitely not us. more likely clandeboy? but I have no records on them. I will give them a ring and see.
