My Grandmother was born in Hereford and the name on her birth certificate is different to the name we knew her as.

« on: Monday 04 May 20 21:40 BST (UK) »It is not totally unheard of for people to be registered at two different addresses - I guess people may have misunderstood the instructions as to how to fill the form in an put down who was normally in the house - whether they were there or not. So I have found children with both their grandparents and their parents, for example. So, if Florence should have been with Hananiah, but for some reason was back visiting her parents then perhaps she was enumerated twice.

In the 1901 census, Florence Williams is detailed as living with my great grandfather. I have found several birth records for Florence Williams but not in Hereford.

Cheers everyone for the info, it has been very helpful. Just wondering if it was possible to be registered at 2 addresses in the 1901 census. Could Florence have been registered as living with Hananiah as his domestic help and also with her parents?

« on: Wednesday 06 January 10 22:12 GMT (UK) »I haven't been able to find which Florence Williams is the my great grandmother from the various Florence Williams listed as being born in herefordshire in 1879 because Dorstone does not appear in any of the records and this seems to be the only distinguishing feature.

My grandmothers 1903 birth certificate shows only her mother as being a Florence Williams.
In the 1901 census, Florence Williams is detailed as living with my great grandfather and being born at Dorstone ab1879. I have found several birth records for Florence Williams, Herefordshire in 1879 but the Dorstone connection is confusing. Any suggestions?
