Thank you Scotmum for alerting me about this Darragh thread.

I have previously saved a note about the 1844 marriage if Bernard Darragh & Mary Hutton (Hatton) at Ahoghill but have not been able to find a connection to my Darragh ancestor. It is possible that there may be a family link but I have yet to find sufficient evidence to prove this. My Jane Darragh was living in Casheltown townland at the time of her 1879 marriage in Ahoghill but the priest did not record her father’s name and it appears the registrar did not receive any information either as there is no marriage certificate. Griffiths valuation shows a Henry, Roderick and James in Casheltown and 1901 census also has a Bernard Darragh and Catherine (Watson) who were married in Ahoghill in 1833.

MKREIJNS - I will alert another contact to your query as they are also researching Darraghs in the Ahoghill area in this period.

Antrim / Looking for school records

Can someone advise please? How would I find the most likely school attended by a family c 1890's?  Were irish schools specific to religous groups or multi-denominational?  Would it just be a question of finding the nearest school to the home address and seeing if records exist?  Thanks

Hi YTS

This might be a silly suggestion but are you trying to access the IGI from a Bookmark?  I have had a problem before with  bookmarked sites, some work and others will just hang unless you click refresh or go to the home page.

Hi

I don't know if this is connected to the problem but I have been trying to search the IGI by batch number and for the last 2 days it comes up with a message  -
" We are unable to display search results due to technical difficulties. Please try searching:again in a few minutes"

The old site and the new version seem to work fine but I was trying to save trawling through pages of results and it no longer works for me.

Derry (Londonderry) / Re: Scullion family- How do I find them in Derry?
« on: Friday 18 February 11 12:02 GMT (UK)  »
Hi Eileen

I have just looked at the 1851 census and notice that John is the same age as Henry's son and from the information given the family appear to have moved to England about 5 years previously.  So, it is possible they were known to each other in Ireland.  Have you tried searching for Henry Mullen in Ireland?  There could be a family connection.  Also, I presume you will have looked at Griffiths Valuation to get a guide as to location, or even the Will Calendars at www.proni.gov.uk may throw up some family names/locations.

I have a Scullen ancestor and have found the name as baptismal sponsors and marriage witnesses spelt as Scullen, Scullin and Scullion, all presumably the same family.  Unfortunately, I don't think there are many surviving parish records from the 1820's.

Antrim / Re: Crebilly graveyard?

Thank you aghadowey for your help, yet again.  Thank you for the links, the history article was very informative. If I have understood correctly ,Crebilly is an RC graveyard without the original church?

i don't know of any connection with Crebilly that's why I was so surprised to find familiar names listed.  I shall have to keep searching now to try and find one.

Antrim / Crebilly graveyard?
« on: Thursday 17 February 11 12:55 GMT (UK)  »
Can anyone with local knowledge of the Ballymena area help me please? I have just been browsing The Braid website and was surprised to find a couple of names of interest referring to Crebilly cemetery.  There are no dates given so presume it is an old headstone.  I now need to find out the religious denomination of this cemetery, the location, and if there are any further interment records held by the cemetery authorities.

The names match those of a couple I have living c 1879 in the Ahoghill area so would not expect them to be buried as far away as what appears to be Ballymena town.

Thank you

Charlotte
