Many thanks for the information.

I am still waiting for the copy of the Birth Certificate for David Jones (1898 - ) b: 1898 in Dolgellau, to arrive as I think this is my paternal grandfather, who came to Bristol in his 20's and remained here.  If this is the case then all the information you have given me will be extremely useful.

Again, thank you for your help.

Linda

Emyr - many thanks for your help, I am just taking up my search again after a long break and have renewed my membership with an on-line site, but thank you for your offer.

This seems to be the correct family this time, so I will do some more research.

Who knew searching for Jones in Wales would be so difficult!

Linda Jones.

After spending several years tracking the wrong 'Jones' family, I would request some help.  Is anyone out there related to Alice Jones of Henfelin, Dolgelly?  According to the 1901 census she was living as Head of family with 4 children - Caroline (6), David (3), Evan (8) and Baby Sarah (0).
I am hoping that David is my Grandfather, as Evan was killed in WW1 and his name is on the War Memorial in Dolgelly - the only information I have about my grandfather.

Hello Emrys

Thank you for your response.  When I last posted I was almost certain that Willie Jones, shown on the War Memorial in Dolgellau, was my Great Uncle.  But as thingas have progressed with contact from others, as well as you, I think I may have got it wrong.

The only way I have of tracing my ancestry in North Wales, is that my Grandfather, David Jones was born in Dolgellau and he told me that his late brother's name was on the War Memorial there.  I have been trying for 5 years to research my 'Jones' tree, but I think it is proving to be far  too hard.

Thanks for taking the time to contact me

Linda Jones.

Hi Chwiliwr

Many thanks for your reply and for the photo.  I am more certain now that Alice is my Great GM and I would love to find out more about the family.  I have the details from the 1901 and 1911 census and that my grandfather was born in the Union Workhouse, but at present that is it.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Kind Regards
Linda

Hello - many thanks for your reply, I have sent you a PM with the details I have.

But, if my research is incorrect, I would like to check W Ellis Jones as being the mysterious Great Uncle whose name is on the War Memorial in Dolgellau.  Do you know if 'Tanygoeden' is a place name, a house name, or part of the surname?

Many thanks

Linda Jones
