Thanks trish........ :)

Lots of info to check out.

I have found George and Jane French (nee Sparrow).  They were married in 12.12.1853 at Hilborough. Thanks to the FamilySearch pilot site. :)

I have also found a Francis Bonus born in Swaffham.  Not sure whether he is Esther's father but at least its a starting point.

Thanks Trish.

They do look like a good possibility.  With regards to the 1851 census, Esther was an inmate at Swaffham workhouse where her fisrt son was born so she would not be included.

I shall look into this, because as you stated Martha was down as a neice on a later census.

I have checked that Pilot site from LDS and after magnifying Esthers father's name on the certificate it looks very much like his name maybe BONUS.  Not a common name but still appears to be hard to trace.  that site is a fantastic resource.

Thanks again. Jono

Will be in touch, many thanks Jono.

Oh I'm sorry...... :-[

Edmund was born around 1645 and william about 1650.

I have info with regards to post 1733 but nothing in between.

I have good reliable info post 1768 but again nothing in between.

My family have always stated that they have origins in Horsey.  But I have little or no info other than a Robert Rising purchased Horsey Hall and him being a descendant of a William Rising...........Its the connection that I am struggling with.

I am seeking information on the 'Rising's' of Norfolk.

I believe that the Rising's have descendants from Hockering & Lyng with Edmund being Yeoman and William being Yeoman of Weston Longville.

I also believe that there is a connection with Horsey.

Would really, really appreciate any info.

Many thanks Jono.

Esther's father is Francis Bo??s. I am in the process of trying to decipher the rector's handwritting. I favour Bowes. He is a labourer.

Witnesses were Gearge and Jane French.  All have left their mark. X.

I shall have a browse of the census to see if there is some info that will help with Francis's surname.

Thanks for the Rising info.  Will check it out.

Many thanks Jono.

Great news...............Esther's marriage certificate has mention of her father. The birth cert of James although has no name for his father, has confirmed the date and parish, or should I say confirms my grandfathers claim that his father was born in  a workhouse.

It has given me some other avenues to follow.

I have a question though and wonder if some kind person could help.  My paternal line have always claimed that they are ancestors /descendants of affulent (sp) folk.  Both maternal and paternal lines originate from Norfolk and with regards to the paternal line the family name is 'Rising' .  I have some info on the Rising line but have yet found it difficult to get a connection.

My paternal grandmother was a Rising..and 'Tilney' is featured as a middle name is the family. I have a William Rising of Somerton who married a Mary Tilney but have no dates other than it must of been pre 1645 as that was the date Edmund was born. Any help would be greatly appreciated as I seem to be running around in circles.

Now to my question.........At last you may say...... :D

As I am new to this site ....should I open a new topic for the Rising line? Is there anywhere where to look for a Rising connection?

Thanks Jono.

Thank you so much for your help..... :) :)

Esther I have discovered had two sons..James and William.  James married an Elizabeth? and they had 11 children.....one being my grandfather.

I am sure Esther's mother was Elizabeth and yes it would appear she was quite a girl.... ;)

I am going to request a birth cert for James.......do you think that it might have the fathers name on it because on a census record it states James Esthery Gutteridge....which I find an unusal middle name so had wondered whether it might be his fathers name. But who knows.........

Esther did marry a Joseph Hudson in 1857 and had a further 7 children.

Thanks again.
