Family History Beginners Board / Re: Peet, Thomas c1800

Thank you all for responding to my plea.

I have just picked this up again and I will research all of your information. I am looking at this for a good friend of mine as I have completed the current research on my own family tree.

I am always amazed at all of those who help amateur genealogists like me.

If I can help any of you please just email me. I have lived in Nottinghamshire all of my life so have lots of local knowledge.

Thanks a lot!

Joseph Peet was married to Sarah Sansome on 9/2/1846 in Loughborough.

Thomas Peet is on their marriage record as his father but I have been unable to find a definite record for Thomas about his birth or who he married etc.

Thanks

Hi,
I am searching the Peet family. Some live in Nottingham and some are based around Leicestershire.
I am trying to find the parents of Joseph Peet. On his marriage record to Sarah Sansome (nee Watts) his father is name Thomas. But, I cannot trace Thomas’s birth or marriage.
Any ideas anyone? Thanks

Thanks Annette7,
I have the same issue, just a hunch that it just doesn’t quite match up.

Thank you to all of those who replied to my post.

I don’t have the will so, I may have missing information in that area.

However, I have all of William’s census records, records of all of his children and their baptisms and records of both Samuel and Catherine’s parents.

But thank you all for confirming some of my research.

I will delve a little deeper and see if I can find some official records from the GRO where relevant.

Nottinghamshire / William Bowles Raynor

Apologies…. I have asked about this person before but can anyone help to clarify whether if William is the Great (x3) Grandfather of my husband? And, where does the name ‘Bowles’ originate? (I am aware that some children take their parents last name as a middle name). But, the information I have found, to date, is that William (no middle name) was christened in 1806 to Catherine/Kitty Raynor (nee Frost) – no father is listed as he appears to be illegitimate.

Catherine Frost married Samuel Raynor in Nottingham in 1797 and they had one daughter Elizabeth before Samuel died in 1800.

Catherine then had 4 more children; Samuel 1802, Harriett 1803, William 1804, William 1806.

There is a lot of published information about Harriett who married John Fowlke and they and some of their children joined the Latter Day Saints and emigrated to Utah, USA where they became well known and there are lots of references to them on the internet. This information helped me finding details of William Raynor (1806) and his mother Catherine.

It is written that Catherine’s 4 illegitimate children were fathered by Thomas Roper who was also having children with his wife at around the same time. If this is the case why does William have Bowles as a middle name?

William Bowles Raynor married Mary York Else in 1822 making William only 16 years old at the time of his marriage? The witnesses were John Raynor and Mary Ann Alvey who later married but I haven’t found the relationship between John and William.

One other anomaly, is that on census records and certificates that are dated around the same time, William (Bowles) Raynor’s occupation is described sometimes as a Shoemaker and on other records he is in the police force as an Inspector and later in life he is described as Superintendent of Police in Nottingham. Is this right or are these 2 very different people?
(There are lots of newspaper articles with reference to William as a senior police officer).

The research that does seem to match up is that William Bowles’son William bn 1824 was also a Police Officer in Nottingham, like father, like son? And, the census addresses seem to match up even if the occupations differ.

I am also confused because in his will William Bowles Raynor leaves £100 to a Joseph Berrington, no other people are mentioned however, William seems to have had 9 children – wouldn’t they have been named in his will?

Can anyone help from the Raynor, Frost, Roper, York Else or Fowlke family line? I am going around in circles!!

Thanks very much
Bridget

Derbyshire / Re: Cresswells, Derbyshire

Hi. Enoch Cresswell is my grandfather x3. I am getting confused about his marriages and deaths.
I found a death for a Selina Cresswell in 1947. But then saw that one of the Rootchat messages stated a 2nd marriage, a marriage that I knew about but couldnt find a name. However, since seeing these posts I have found Enoch to Sarah Guest but that marriage was before the date that Selina died??

Does anyone have clarification about these facts?

Many thanks

Bridget

Northumberland Lookup Requests / Re: Jacob Adamson born c1807 in Durham

Thank you all again for your help with my family tracing.

I already had some of this information but my knowledge has now been widened and I have now added 3 of Jacob's siblings to my tree and some occupations and death record. I had recorded Jacob's birth in 1807 which made me ask the question about George and Mary Adamson as shown on the 1841 census. They would make Jacob 15 when George was born. I also have most of his Aunts and uncles and was looking for a possible cousin George but haven't found this yet. However, I did find a birth for his sister Jane that may have been an illegitimate birth?

I cannot find an 1851 census record for either Jacob or George - have you found them on this year's census?

Hi. I am trying to find out more about Jacob's children. He married Dorothy Taylor in 1832 however on the 1841 census he is listed with 7 children, 2 of them; George (bn c1823) and Mary bn (c1826) were born before Jacob's marriage. So, I am assuming that Dorothy or Jacob must have been married before but I can't trace a previous record.
I found a record for a George Taylor bpt in 1823 to a Samuel and Dorothy Taylor but can't trace a marriage record for them.
Is anyone tracing the same family or has any ideas????
Many thanks
Bridget
