The Common Room / Printing off restored photos
« on: Monday 06 February 12 12:29 GMT (UK)  »
Good afternoon all  :D

It's taken me months, but I've finally restored the majority of my photos using Photoshop.

I sent them all off to truprint, but the results were very disappointing color wise. Brown toned photos turned out red, black and whites turned out purple etc etc.

I think i'm going to print them all off at home now, but here's the dilemma - my printer is AWFUL. I'm going to have to buy a new one.

Has anyone ever printed off their own family photos and had good results? What kind of printer did you use?
What kind of paper did you use? I'm trying to get them as close as possible to the original, the originals are very matte, almost like they were printed on thick normal plain paper.

Damn, I have no subscription so I can't see it :'(
Thank you though! It's really great to have all this extra, unexpected information on him. For far to long he's been just a name with very little information  :(

Talie,

He was a pre-war Regular.

When was he born? According to one source, his service number shows that he enlisted during 1900.

Phil

What is a pre-war regular?   :o
He was born in 1883 in Surrey. I don't know much about him, I haven't found anything about his enlistment. He's completely disappeared on the 1901 census to :(

Yes, that's his medal card.

:o Awesome!!
Would this now require a trip to the national archives to see if there is any more existing information on my grandfathers military history?

Quoting the CWGC website. This was the entry for the death of my great great grandfather James William Cutts who was killed in action in 1916.

CUTTS J W
Nationality - United Kingdom
Rank - Private
Regiment/Service:   East Surrey Regiment
Unit Text:   7th Bn.
Date of Death - 02/04/1916
Service No - 6556
Casualty Type - Commonwealth War Dead
Grave/Memorial Reference - II. J. 17.
Cemetery - VERMELLES BRITISH CEMETERY

I then came across a medal card for a James W Cutts who was in the 1st battalion East Surrey Regiment. The regiment number was 6556, the same as the service number of my great great grandad. I don't know if the two numbers relate to each other.. but is it possible this could be the medal card of my grandfather? (i've attached the medal card image)

Essex / Marriage between Cornelius Wall and wife sarah
« on: Saturday 01 October 11 21:54 BST (UK)  »
Evening  ;D

I've been looking for a marriage between Cornelius Wall (also known as Neeley/Nealy) and his wife Sarah (Possibly Clarkson, but i'm unsure)
I'm pretty sure the marriage should of occurred in Essex some time between 1795-1805. I haven't managed to find anything beyond Cornelius or Sarah. I'm hoping someone could find the marriage, and hopefully that could give some clues to their past  :D

Kent / Re: Mary Cullen ne Cheeseman on the census

Hi

Going out on a limb a little -

As William Cullen born 1831 is shown on 1881CR as a Master Mariner living at Ramsgate how about this for his father -

William Cullen son on Ric Cullen and Alice baptized at Folkestone in 1793 and buried there 1837 but residence given as Calais, France! (IGI)
It would explain him missing all CRs and possibly other members of the family living over there?
A closer alternative than Poplar.

Regards
Lee

Thank you for finding that! I'll note this down and have a look into it. I haven't yet had much of a look into the Cullens yet - Going to take a shot at that now  :P
